My first source is an essay written in the book A Double Bassists Guide to

Refining Performance Practices. It talks about the differences between the

French and the German bow holds, the pros and cons of both, and what
prompted him to write the article. I knew that this article passed the CRAAP
test because it was just one of the many essays written in this fantastic book
that was published in 2013. The author of the essay is also a highly
regarded bassist, as he has played with the New York Philharmonic among
other chamber groups during several time periods. The article is
grammatically stable, and makes sense. It is very well researched and
thought out. The authors purpose of this article is to inform the reader on
the pros and cons of each bow and their distinct traits.

My second article is published in the online journal of bass research, which is

run by the international society of bassists. This exact article was written by
a former student of the Shenandoah Conservatory, and was the winner of the
2014 International Society of Bassists Research Competition student division.
The article breaks down the ideas of two scholars in the bass world on their
opinions on how to hold each type of bow. It talks in great detail about each
ones ideas and what they say about each other. The article was published
in August of 2015.

My final article that I chose was in a blog that was written by a double bassist
who is very well versed in the educational community. He has taught all
levels of education, and was a former faculty member of the State University
in New York. Too add to that, he is a best-selling author, with his book
getting positive reviews from all places covered. The grammar in this piece
is solid, and he seems to know exactly what hes talking about, considering
the fact that he has been a teacher and has been in the situations that he
talks about. He talks about what aspects of the student should be a
determination of the bow, and how they should be determined. The purpose
of this article was inform the reader as to how to prepare to teach the bass
and which type of bow the instructor should choose.
