HEATING SYSTEM

Heating system are necessary to maintain a comfortable temperature, usually 18-20

degrees. They can be classified according to:

The users, with central (one plant for all the flats), autonomous (each hause
has a plant) or local (room heaters, fireplaces) system;
The thermovector fluid (which can be air, steam and water);
The principle of heat diffusion ( divided into conduction, convection and
radiance): conduction, when heat is
transmitted through bodies;
convection, when heat is transmitted through vapours and liquids or air;
radiance, when heat is transmmitted through space, like the sun.
The source of energy (which can be wood, coal, oil, gas, electrcity). Electricity
provides comfortable, clean, safe energy buti it is expensive. Fuel oil is
expensive too, while gas produces little pollution but its quantity is limited.

ELEMENTS AND WORKING OF A HOT WATER HEATING SYSTEM

All heating systems function in the same basic way and have the same
equipment.
1. A thermostat signals the need for heat and turns the burner on (heat
producer);
2. The heat warms the transfer medium (water) inside the boiler (the
heat exchanger);
3. Heated water moves by gravity or by pumps and arrives to the radiators
(heat distributors);
4. Then the cooled water returns to the boiler by means of a circulating
pump.
ELEMENTS AND WORKING OF A FORCED WARM-AIR HEATING SYSTEM
This kind of heating system has a low installation cost, fast heat delivery and
high reliability.
1. When the thermostat calls for heat, the furnace burner is turned on;
2. A blower pulls old air from the rooms and, passing through a filter, it is
sent to this furace;
3. There the air is heated and flows back to the rooms through the supply
ducts to the various distributors, called registers or vents to heat the
builidng;
4. Finally the blower pulls the air from the rooms into the return ducts, air
passes through a filter and returns to the furnace to start the cycle
again.
ELEMENTS AND WORKING OF A RADIANT ELECTRIC HETING SYSTEM
It uses a cable that produces heat from electricity. The cable radiates heat to
the room and may be installed in the ceiling of floor or along the baseboard
(underfloor). A thermostat controls the amount of heat produced by the cable.
This system is energy-saving and creates heathier and more comfortable living
environment. Some benefits are that the feet are always toasty warm, you
wont feel the drafts or hear the noise of blowing air, no dust or allergens and
the bills will be cheaper than forced-air system because it consumes less
energy.
