Learning Objectives
After the completion of this module, you should be able to:
Describe the four-step methodology of chemical product design;
Creatively generate as many ideas as possible and critically select the most suitable ideas for designing
a product to satisfy specific needs (including the consideration of the effects on the environment and
society);
Discuss and debate within a group to contribute to the solutions of open-ended problems;
Apply the methodology to design a chemical product with given information, and communicate the
design via a concise report and presentation; and
Evaluate the work of peers in terms of technical aspects and communication effectiveness.

Class Rules
All group activities are to be done in the group exercise book given. The exercise book for each group
should be collected from me at the beginning of each class, and submitted at the end of each class for
grading purposes.
Check the IVLE regularly for new lecture handouts and announcements.
Every class will start on time on the dot.
Class participation is part of the grading. if you are unable to attend a particular class for some reason,
please let us know in advance via email. If youre not feeling well, the submission of a medical certificate
is required.
Since group activity is required, please organize yourselves in groups of 3 by the 1st lesson of week 2.
Before week 2, you are allowed to form random groups of 3 for in-class activities.
o Remember to write your names at the top of each page for activities in week 1 and 2. If no
names are written, no marks will be awarded.
o Write your group number and group members names at the front page of the exercise book
from week 2 onwards.
Final exam will be held in week 13. Details of the exam will be announced on a later date.
