After some trial strikes on 1855, the first official peruvian cents were struck on 1863; to
complete the UN SOL fractional series when the decimal coinage system was adopted instead
the old Octal.
The first years 1863 & 1864 were struck in USA at a not confirmed Private Mint on Copper -
Nickel planchets, all later are bronze and copper, most of them struck in Lima Mint with the
exception of 1895 struck at Waterbury and 1919 at Philladelphia Mint
Those first bronze and copper cents coins, were called Gordos (fat ones) for most people,
due to they were struck on 2.9 mm thickness planchet until 1941 when, after some rare trial
strikes of 1936, a 1.6 mm thickness was officially adopted until 1949.
From 1950 to 1965 all cents were struck on a Zinc thinner and smaller planchet.
There are so many die varieties shown in this catalogue, and may be more unknown. To avoid
confusions of so many catalogue numbers existing at present day, this catalogue refers the
coins to Krause Catalogue Numbers as they appears on 2001 edition, not catalogued coins are
shown as N.C.
Statistics shown are based on some aleatory lot of coins found in diferent places, containing
1863 - 1949 "Un & Dos centavos" Coins. Zinc planchets are not included

Just after the early 30`s recession and on pre-war times, with metal prices rising on
international markets, it was impossible for the Peruvian economy, to keep circulating silver
coins who had an alloy value over its nominal value, in spite of its finesses was dramatically
reduced since early 20s. from 0.900 (9 decimos) to 0.500 (5 decimos) for Un Sol and 1/2 Sol
issues and from silver planchets to Cu-Ni for minors such as 20, 10 and 5 centavos.
On 1935 was struck the last currency silver coin in Lima and it appears the first Brass issue; a
1/2 Sol coin struck in London join with some new Cu-Ni 20, 10, and 5 cents. also replaced on
1942 for brass planchets.
The Un Sol silver coin was in circulation up to 1943 when it was replaced for the brass
planchet struck up to 1965 when replaced for the smaller "Vicua Series" but keeps in
circulation together to mid 70s when replaced again for a smallest one.
All die varieties found from 1935 to 1965 are shown in this catalogue, in spit of it may exist
some others waiting to be catalogued in a next publication.
To avoid confusions of so many catalogue numbers existing at present day, this catalogue
refers the coins to Krause Catalogue Numbers as they appears on 2001 edition, not catalogued
coins are shown as N.C.

Un Sol de Oro
Vicua & Flor de la Cantuta series
1966 - 1975
On 1966, the "Vicua" and "Flor de La Cantuta" series designed by Armando Pareja, the Lima
mint assayer, were introduced as new currency coins instead the old, big, and heavy "Un Sol
de Oro" that keeps in circulation, also with the "1965 Lima Mint 400th Anniversary" series.
Due to a hard monetary devaluation, on 1975 those three series were replaced for a smaller
and not so pretty " Un Sol" series
As told about previous series, there are so many die varieties shown in this catalogue, and
may be more unknown.
