A t-test was done to determine if there is a significant difference compared to the mean. The
significant level used is .05. There is not a significant difference in the percentage change of the
weight of watermelon between the control (0%) and the varying amount of salt concentration.
This is applied to 0.20%, 0.40%, and 0.80% of salt concentration. With less than 0.80% salt
concentration, the null hypothesis is accepted because p .05. However, in the 2% salt
concentration solution, there is a significant difference. This leads to the rejection of the null
hypothesis for only the 2% salt solution because p .05.

Null Hypothesis: The amount of salt in the solution will have no effect on the diffusion of water
between the watermelon.
Hypothesis: If there is more salt in the solution, then more water will be diffused out of the
watermelon compared to no salt in the solution.
