Experiment Title: ACID-BASE TITRATIONS
I. Objectives:
1. To become acquainted with the volumentric method of analysis.
2. To determine the concentration of an unknown acid solution by titration with a strong
base.
II. Materials Used:
A. Equipments
B. Reagents
III. Procedure:
IV. Precautions/ warning:
1. Always wear you personal protective gear
2. Always bring your laboratory kit
3. Make sure your area is clean
4. Properly dispose the used materials
5. Clean all the laboratory equipment after using it
A.
1 0 31.3
2 0 29.9
3 0 27.9
Solution:
First Step:
x = 31.3
5 x = 29.9
5 x= 27.9
5
Second Step:
0.626+0.398+0.558= 1.782
= 1.782
3 = 0.594
B.
1 0 16.3
2 0 14.9
3 0 13.5
Solution:
40
x = 41.8
5 x = 39.5
5 x= 5
0.836(1.63) 0.549(1.5)
= 5 = 5 = 0.549(1.4)

VI. Questions:
1. Why should the titration endpoint be taken as a faint pink color of the phenolphthalein
indicator?
Because it shows the reaction is completed and the solution is basic now. But if u go on
adding the base it develops more strong dark pink colour. So, the faint pink clour is taken as
the end point.
2. What you are using to titrate it not pure. For example, If you are supposed to be using
1 M of NaOH to titrate vinegar, and the NaOH has something like a small amount of HCl in it
because last lab you forgot to clean the beaker you were holding it in (which perviously had
some HCl). This would mean that the molarity is much smaller, because there are other
impurities in the same amount of solution. This results in a too low calculated molarity. Your
standard solution needs to be accurate.
3.) Actual molarity of the standardized solution. Especially with one or two sig figs, this
could dramatically increase or decrease the molarity depending on actual molarity (ex using
.09501M solution as .1M)
