Diary
14/02/17 Session 3 + 4
Aim: For todays lesson I am going to aim to create all my graphics that are required for my
animation and start a diary. I will do this by using Photoshop. I will also aim to make my
soundtrack in Audacity as well as record my voiceovers.
Evidence: Firstly, I am going to search on google to find a dance studio image, which I can
edit in Photoshop to create my background image. Once I found my image, I am going to
save it in my work area and open it in Photoshop. I will then make sure it is the right size for
my animation stage size, which is 832 x 624. To make my image look more realistic I am
going to change the brightness and contrast to -23 and 40.

I am now going to look for a dance bag and water bottle image, which I can add to my
background image in Photoshop. I will follow the same process as I did to make my
background. I will open up my dance bag and water bottle graphics and I will drag them
individually onto the dance studio background. I will then use the magic wand tool to get rid
of the white backgrounds. I will then use show transform controls to change the sixe of my
added assets. My final background image is as shown below right.

Next I am going to create a small apple and chocolate bar prop, which will be used to tell the
healthy eating storyline. I will create these using Photoshop again as I prefer it to the Adobe
Flash software. I will firstly search for an animated chocolate bar, as the position is wrong I
will use the transform controls to rotate it slightly. I will then add on an angry face, which I
found on the internet to make it look as though it is bad to eat.
Victoria Holt

I will now do the same for the apple prop. To make the eyes for my apple I am going to use
two ovals to create the eyes outline and then similar to the eye photos on the internet I will
fill it in with white and add a couple of black dots.

Lastly, I am going to make my two girl characters using Photoshop again. The difference
being that the arms and legs of my characters are going to be separate so that I can use the
bone tool in Flash to make them move. Firstly, I will find a girl ballerina character which I can
edit and add my own features and limbs. I will firstly use the eraser to get rid of the white
background and draw around my character. I will then separate the character from its limbs
by using the eraser tool again. I will then select each other the different limbs and put them
onto their own canvases so that I can save each arm and leg separately.

To make my second character I will do exactly the same however, I will select the tutu and
leotard and change the hue and saturation to 62 to make it purple. I will then save these
parts again but as girl 2. I also used the paintbrush tool to add a silver tiara.

Learnt: In these sessions, I have learnt how to change the size of my assets and set my
background image to the right stage size. I have also learnt how to keep the texture on a
graphic but change the colour.

15/02/17 Session 2 + 4
Aim: Login & check emails, fill in my ILP, diary and continue to collect my music and make
my soundtrack. I will also start my animation.
Evidence: The next thing I am going to do is go onto Youtube to find suitable backing music
and dance music to include in my animation. Once I found what I wanted I then went onto a
website called convert2mp3 and downloaded my soundtracks, renaming them with
suitable names. I then put all music possible music clips into a folder. When it comes to
needing them in my animation I will firstly edit them audacity.

I will now begin to make my animation on Adobe Flash, to do this I will firstly load up flash
and create a new ActionScript 3.0 document. I will then go to the properties tab on the right
and set the stage size so that it is 832 x 624 and I will make sure the stage colour is white. I
will also ensure that the frames per second is set to the default 24. I will then save it with a
suitable name like Healthy Eating Animation.

Next I will begin to import my assets into the Flash library. To do this I will go to file > import
> import to library. As you can see below middle I have now dragged my background image
to the stage and have renamed the first layer to background so that I can easily organise
my images on different layers.
Victoria Holt

Now that I have added the background studio graphic into Flash, I have decided its not
what I wanted so I have decided to make it again using the shapes in Photoshop. Firstly, I
will create a rectangle and fill in it so that it looks like a wooden floor colour. I then double
clicked on the rectangle layer and added a pattern overlay with a 10% opacity. The next
thing I made was the mirrors to this I used five rectangles and changed the opacity to 86. I
then went onto google to find a ballet barre image. I then saved it, opened it in Photoshop
and used the magic wand tool to get rid of the white background. After this, I then used the
transform options to change the size. I then added some light yellow long rectangles to look
like lights at the top of my image.

The last thing I need to do is add a stereo, dance bags and water bottles to my graphic. To
do this I will import them as I have done before. I will then use the transform options to
change the size. I will make sure these added graphics are on layers above the mirror
rectangles and wooden floor rectangle.

I have now imported my new studio background graphic and it looks more like what I
wanted. I will now start on my first scene. Firstly I will add text onto my opening frame, to
do this I will create a new layer called opening credits. Then I will go to the text icon and
write my text down. I will then go to text and change the colour, style and font. In order to
make text move up the screen I will have to move my text off the stage and I will then right
click and create a motion tween. In order for me to put something off stage, I will need to
change the view to 50%.
Victoria Holt

The next stage is to add my characters to my library and put the limbs to my first character
using the bone tool; before I do this, I will create a new layer and import all my characters
body parts. I will then drag my characters body onto the stage. I will then use the transform
tool to change the size of my character so it is relative in size compared to my background
graphic.

I will then convert the body to a symbol so that I can then double click on it and add the
other limbs images, and all the part of the one character will be altogether. I will first need
to convert these to symbols as well. I dragged each limb onto the stage and moved it into
the correct position and size; I then right clicked and made it a symbol. I then deleted it and
double clicked on the body, created a new layer and added the limb in the right position
onto the body.

The next stage is to do the same with my other character, but instead the layer will be called
girl 2.

Now I have my two characters I am going to use the bone tool to make my characters walk
onto the stage. To do this I am going draw a link from the body to the arms and legs and
then put a motion tween onto the stage so that they can walk. In order to make the legs
move I will double click on my character and move the legs on the armature layer every 5
Victoria Holt

frames at a time, each time the leg will be in a different position. I will do the same for the
arm movements when the characters are in the middle of the studio stage.

Learnt: In this lesson, I learnt how to create my background image using rectangles on
Photoshop. I also learnt how to put all my limbs on my characters as separate parts and join
them together using the bone tool.
27/2/17 Session 1 & 3
Aim: Login & check emails, fill in my ILP, diary and sources document. I will then carry on
with my animation.
Evidence: To start with, in this session I am going to make girl two move towards the stereo
in the corner. Firstly, I will have to double click on my girl two character in order to move
her and her limbs towards the stereo to make it look like she is turning the music on. I will
use the bone tool to move each part and will click on different frames on my characters
timeline layers, with every movement, with every limb. There will then be some music,
which is played at this point, however Im adding all my music and voiceovers at the end on
a different layer.

The next thing to do is to move my character walk over and eat something from their bags.
All I will do is click, drag the girls from the current position to another one, and right click to
add a position frame so that they wait there. I will make them walk as done previously, in
the same way. I will add another motion tween onto this character aswell. There arms will
move so that it looks like they are grabbing something out the dance bags. To move the
limbs you simply double click the character, find your chosen key frame and click and drag
the part you want to move. They will then have a conversation about what is healthy and
what isnt. At the same time I will make my characters move by using the bone tool again so
Victoria Holt

that they start to dance again. All the movements are done in the same way. I will add these
voiceovers in the next stage.

I am now going to import the graphics of my apple and chocolate bar so that the girls can
pick them out of the dance bags. In order to put them into place on the stage I will create a
new layer, add a new blank key frame where the apple and choc bar should appear and then
drag them to where they should go and the right click.

As I have been working on my animation I have realised that my animation doesnt really
appeal to both male and females, however I can create a boy character, which wasnt
originally planned and add him in my animation at the end. I will firstly have to create this
character on Photoshop, like I did with my girl characters.
I will start off by opening a new Photoshop canvas and finding a body graphic I can use on
google images. I will then save this image and edit so that all the limbs are saved as separate
parts. I will firstly have to unlock my graphic so I can get rid of the girl. I will do this using the
magic wand too. I will then erase all of the limbs and save the head and body as the body
section of the boy. To save it as a Photoshop file as well as a PNG I will go to file > save as
and give it a suitable name for both formats. I will then open up another graphic of the
same image so I can get the arms and legs. I will use the quick selection tool to separate my
legs from the body.
Victoria Holt

I am now going to change the plot of my animation abit as I cant get the characters to bend
their arms to eat the apple and choc bar. Instead I am going to add the boy character who
will walk onto the stage and have a conversation about whats good for you and whats not.
Then the girls will carry on dancing before the end credits appear. I will start by importing
the boy into my animation document and then animating all his limbs so he can move, like I
did with the two girls. I will follow the same process. Ill start by making the graphic body
parts into symbols and then I will add motion tween so that my character walks onto the
stage. Ive used the bone tool so that I can make my character look like hes walking onto
the stage. Ill make the character walk on stage by adding a motion tween.

Learnt: I learnt how to make it look like the character was turning the stereo on.
28/02/17 Session 3 + 4
Aim: Login & check emails, fill in my ILP, diary and sources document. I will then carry on
with my animation.
Evidence: The next step is to make sure the other dancer is kept moving, to do this I will
double click on her and scroll through the timeline to find the frame where she stops
moving and I will simply add more pose by dragging her legs on different frames.

The green dots represent

where the girl moves her legs.

The last thing to do is to add the music and voiceovers. Firstly I will edit them in Audacity to
make them the right volume and length. I will open up Audacity and then the sound clips
which I have previously found and saved. I will then highlight the parts I dont want and
Victoria Holt

delete them. I will then change the volume using the levels on the left hand side. When
adding the music into my animation, I will go to file > import and I will have to go to each
dialogue part to get the correct frame numbers. I will then add a new music layer and insert
a new key frame. I am going to get rid of a couple of my voiceovers, as I cannot get my
characters to eat the apple and choc bar so the voiceovers would fit in with the animation.

I have decided to put all my voiceovers together into an adobe premier pro document so
that I can see what length they are when fitted altogether. This way it means I can then add
it into my animation easily. To do this I will open up a new file in Premier Pro and call it
conversation, I will then import the sound clips and edit the length in the source window. I
will then use the mark in and out tools to get rid of the clip which is silence. I will also
change the volume of the sound clips by going to the audio level. I will then export my audio
so that its in an MP3 format.

As I am at the end of my animation now, I will add my ending credits. I will add them in the
same way I did with my opening credits however, the text will be different. I will go to the
text tool to create a text box, add my text and modify it so that I can change the size and
font style.
Victoria Holt

I will also add the BBC logo to the credits. To do this I will find an image on the internet and
import it so that I can drag it onto the stage and add a motion tween. I will add the BBC logo
on a new layer called BBC logo. I will right click on my logo and text to make sure its
arranged so that it appears in front.

As I am close to finishing my animation, I am now going to check the timings in Flash against
those on my planning dope sheets. So that I keep on the right timing to my dope sheets, I
will now check to see if I have the right number of frames for the scene, which I am
currently working on. When ive compared my end frame number in flash to my dope sheets
I have found out that my final flash animation is longer by about 100 frames.

Learnt: I have learnt how to edit and add voiceovers to my animation as well as music.
29/02/17 Session 2 + 4
Aim: Login & check emails, fill in my ILP, diary and sources document. I will then finish with
my animation.
Evidence: I have continued to add my voiceovers in the same way as I did in last lesson. I
have now made it so that there is some kind of audio throughout most of my animation.
Publishing Evidence:
The last thing I need to do now is export my animation. To do this I will firstly check that the
publish settings are correct. I will go to file > publish. I made sure it was publishing as an
SWF file format and I renamed it to Healthy eating animation finished.

Learnt: In these sessions, I learnt that I had split the motions on my characters, which
meant that instead of continuing with the set up poses it went back to the start. I also
learnt how to export my animation into a SWF file.
