Adjectives to describe their monsterr.
Lesson Content Description:
Students will be using a thinking map to describe the monster they
have created. They will include brief descriptions, including
adjectives, then write sentences using those adjectives.

Instructional Strategies/Method of Delivery:


T will provide explicit, direct instruction for students.
T. will provide examples of adjectives to use to describe their monster.
T. will walk students through each section of their thinking map.
T. will then allow students to finish their maps by completing sentences.
Common Core Standard:
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.1.1.F
Use frequently occurring adjectives.
ELD Standard:
7. Evaluating language choices Describe the language writers or speakers use to present an idea
(e.g., the words and phrases used to describe a character), with prompting and substantial
support.
Common Core Lesson Objective:
Students will complete thinking maps and sentences using specific adjectives to describe a
monster they made.
Assessment:
Formative: T. will use the class discussion to assess students understanding of adjectives.
Summative: T. will assess students thinking maps to ensure they used correct adjectives.

EL- T. will do explicit, direct instruction and provide several examples during whole group
instruction.

T. will explain to students that they will be using their monster craft to do some creative
writing.

T. will explain that they will continue to use adjectives in writing to describe their monster.
T. will pass out supplies.
T. will model where to write their adjectives and provide examples.
T. will encourage students to use adjectives such as fire truck red and sharp ferocious
teeth.
T.will go through each part of the thinking map with students to model how to complete each
section.

BEYOND

Independent Practice/Summative Assessment of Each Students Performance


T. will then explain to students that in each of of boxes below their adjectives, they will be
writing a sentence to describe their adjective.
They will write a descriptive sentence for each of the adjectives.
