About Adventists name of one of the cutting North American Adventist sects large

st worldwide (about two and a half million adherents). Social result of the frus
tration among European immigrants in the United States by the harsh living condi
tions (C. Vidal), in general terms its members (Blandre) are taken in social set
tings inclined to resent non-militant, v. gr.: housewives, unskilled workers, lo
wer middle class in the process of proletarianization, etc. History Its starting
point is constituted by the special performances of William Miller in connectio
n with Daniel 8.14, based on which prophesied the End of the World for 1843. Fai
lure to occur, Miller announced the End of the World for March 21, 1844, the Apr
il 18, 1844 and October 22, 1844 (Francis D. Nichol, The Midnight Cry, pp. 457 e
t seq.) Paradoxically this latest failure to provide a sect of the pillars of hi
s theology. On October 23, 1844, one of the followers, called Hiram Edson, repor
ted that it had experienced a vision he had experienced a vision he had seen how
Christ came to an altar in heaven. From this it concluded that Miller had not b
een mistaken about the date, but only had erred in place that would be directed
toward Christ. World's End then return to be announced by the sect in several oc
casions including 1854 and 1873. The central character in the history of the sec
t is what Ellen G. White, whose writings are considered by the hierarchy and the
followers of the Seventh Day Adventists as inspired by God as the Bible, one of
the obvious characteristics of cults (in the same direction, M. Guerra Gómez, L
os NMR, p. 64). The exhaustive analysis of Dr. Ronald Numbers (Prophetess of Hea
lth, Knoxville, 1992, pp. 202 et seq) requires accepting that Mrs. White was suf
fering from an apparent lack of moral and mental health, a point that was highli
ghted by authors such as Walter Rea (White Lies, Zaragoza, 1988) and C. Vidal (h
ell of sects, Bilbao, 1989), which did not prevent its crucial role in the final
configuration of this sect. It must be substantially the doctrinal framework of
Adventism: denial of the immortality of the soul, qualification of the Catholic
Church as the Great Whore of Revelation while Protestant churches are the daugh
ters of the Harlot (E. White, The the centuries, pp. 433 and 434), imposition of
a pseudo-Levitical power, belief in vitalism theory as unscientific, vegetarian
ism to the death of leaders, regardless of Sunday as a mark of the Beast should
be the day precept on Saturday, getting several sums of money from the followers
, etc. In many cases, the Seventh-day Adventists have been a precedent of the mo
st outrageous of the sects of the twentieth century: the use of activities such
as smoking cessation courses for proselytizing (Resolutions of the Council of th
e Union, published in the Journal Adventist October 1984), mandatory fees and re
peated significant economic repeated and substantial economic contributions to b
elong to the cult (Church Manual, p. 57), creation of businesses in which to dep
osit their money should the followers (Information Davenport on the scandal in A
ugust 1982 Time), attempted to infiltrate supraeclesiales entities appearing as
a church more (GL Crosbie, Seventh Day Adventists in New Zealand and Australia,
1958), although this latter tactic, except in case of fered in Spain, has had li
mited success-the creation of agencies and
parallel publications to defend the sect of external attacks as if they were ind
ependent voices (Conscience and Freedom) and alleged manipulation of young peopl
e in training camps for the final crisis (end of the world) of which boasts its
own official magazine of the sect (Adventist Review, October 1979). It is somewh
at interesting that in Spain in its own statutes of 1994 refers to a number of o
rganizations mentioned in a propaganda by the cult to justify their views but ac
tually belong to it. Such is the case of health and temperance League (LIST), th
e International Association for the Defence of Religious Freedom, the Adventist
Development and Relief (ADRA), Naturalia, etc. Also refers to companies that rel
y on the same business areas as editorial (Editorial Safeliz) or food (Food Indu
stry Granovita). In recent years the sect has been in a difficult situation on m
any occasions as a result of information published about it (Dr.€Numbers, W. Rea
, IJZYS Reports, Freedom on cults in Spain, Pilar Salarrullana, etc.) And financ
ial scandals allegedly splashed a good number of their senior executives (Case D
avenport). In Spain, the sect in 1988 filed suit against IJZYS associations and
Freedom because the information that they had brought to light in connection wit
h it. As expected, the complaint was dismissed as the remedy against such a reso
lution brought the sect. In this judicial setback in 1997 joined other Adventist
s to complain against one of his former supporters who had given information on
the sect in a television program. The complaint of Adventists gave rise to the i
ncidental Autos 125/1997 before the District Court n.8 Santa Cruz de Tenerife. F
inally, perhaps fearing a further setback, the Adventists decided to withdraw th
eir pleas, which was accepted by the court. The special chameleons doctrine of t
his sect and cunning to infiltrate when both Catholic and evangelical environmen
ts has caused some have fallen into the error of considering a Protestant church
. Not only is that Adventism by definition is central to most sects but sectaria
n ideology Adventist is flawed in almost all of its sections. Thus, his Christol
ogy, while acknowledging the divinity of Christ, holds that Christ is also the S
an Miguel Archangel, a thesis that they have taken from the Jehovah's Witness. H
is eschatology denies both the immortality of the soul and the existence of hell
and is characterized with regard to the Second Coming by a notice dated sickly
end of the world which have proved false. Both features have also been taken fro
m them by Jehovah's Witnesses, as recognized Jehovist former leader Raymond Fran
z, nephew of current president of the Watchtower. This author has even stated th
at, except the belief in 1914 as the beginning of the end time, there is virtual
ly no essential difference between the theology of the Seventh Day Adventists an
d Jehovah's Witnesses. It is less severely away from the Christianity of Adventi
st soteriology. For one thing, promises salvation to obey blindly based on a ser
ies of slogans such as Judaizing the Sabbath pseudolevítica dieting, etc. and, s
econdly, it contradicts the doctrines of the atonement upheld by all Christian f
aiths. For Adventists, Christ made an atonement in several stages, it is not tak
ing place on the cross but in the year 1844, the year of failure to comply with
their false prophecies. Should not be forgotten, and in this as in other aspects
Adventists are openly sectarian, which is the dogma of the Adventist Church that
the revelations of Ellen G. White is inspired by God and the same authority as
the Bible (other indubitable feature of cults), and this even though it is beyon
d dispute the nature of those pathetically wrong in most cases. Finally, the ref
erence should be obliged to claim "double talk" or double meaning that leaders a
nd followers of the sect give their expressions. Thus, to cite one of the most s
ignificant examples where the adept speaks of the "gift of prophecy" as existing
in the Church, both Catholic and Protestant (especially if they are charismatic
origin) tend to interpret it as a reference to charisma Spirit of prophecy. In
fact, the Adventist followers are referring to Ellen White was a prophet of God
whose authority is similar to that of the Scriptures. This facility to create a
false effect on his listeners on the other hand, characteristic of most cults "s
ays a specialist category of Walter Martin might come to believe briefly that Ad
ventists were a sectarian group. The latest statements by W. Martin began, howev
er, show that no longer held that view and had been deceived by the manipulated
information you were given the Adventist leaders. This also clarifies the theolo
gical hypocrisy that Adventists want to be recognized as a Protestant group, so
they are not, and participate in ecumenical bodies, while its publications insis
t that the Catholic Church the Great Whore and the evangelical churches, the dau
ghters of the Whore. A U.S. anti-cult organization has recently summarized the n
otes of the sectarian character of the Seventh-day Adventism based on six aspect
s: 1. Ellen White's prophecies were false: • • • • • • • prophesied that Jerusal
em would be rebuilt as a Jewish city (Early Writings, p.€75) what it is today. H
e prophesied that she would be alive when Jesus returned (Early Writings, pp. 15
16). He prophesied that England would declare war on the United States during th
e Civil War (Testimonies for the Church, vol. I, p. 259) that did not happen. He
prophesied that the American Civil War (1861-5) was a sign of the soon coming o
f Christ (Idem, p. 260). He prophesied in the 50 century XIX that Christ would r
eturn in "a few months" (Early Writings, p. 58, Idem, p. 64, Idem, p. 67). He pr
ophesied that Adventists who lived in 1856 would be alive for the Second Coming
of Christ (Testimonies for the Church, vol. I, pp. 131-132) prophesied that Chri
st would return before slavery was abolished in the United States (Early Writing
s, pp. 35 and 276) what happened in 1863.
2. Ellen White taught as inspired by God and even nonsensical scientific concept
s gravely immoral: • He stated that some human races were the result of sexual r
elations between animals and men (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 3, pp. 64 and 75, The Vi
sions of Mrs. EG White, p. 103). He said that the prophet Enoch lived in Jupiter
and Saturn along with other beings (Early Writings, pp. 39-40).

He stated that we have animal organs in the brain and the wig used resulted in t
he loss of mental health (The Health Reformer, October 1, 1871; Second Advent Re
view and Sabbath Herald, October 17, 1871).
3. Ellen White taught as inspired by God claims that contradict Scripture: • • •
He stated that the tower of Babel was built before the Flood (Spiritual Gifts,
vol. 3, p. 301, edition of 1864) against Genesis 11 . He said that God had sent
an angel to talk with Cain (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 3, pp. 1948-1949) against Gene
sis 4, 6-7. He stated that the seal of God is Saturday (Testimonies for the Chur
ch, vol. 8, p. 117; The Great Controversy, p. 640) instead of the Holy Spirit (E
ph. 1, 13-4, 4.30, 2 Corinthians 1.21 to 22). He said that the atonement made by
Christ on the cross was completed (The Great Controversy, pp. 422 and 623; Test
imonies for the Church, you. I, p. 58) against what is mentioned in the Bible (H
ebrews 9.26 , 10.12; John 19:30) He said that Satan will take the sins of mankin
d (The Great Controversy, pp. 422 and 485; Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p
. 475) against the Scripture that says which was Christ (1 Peter 2:24; John 1:29
). He stated that through our efforts we can achieve absolute sinlessness (Seven
th-day Adventist Bible Commentary, vol. 6, p. 1118) against the provisions of th
e Scripture (1 John 1.8 to 10). He said that Christ only intercede before God fo
r those who are Adventists (Early Writings, p. 261) against the provisions of th
e Scripture (John 17.20; 1 John 4.7, 5.1, etc..) Stated that the last days peopl
e should leave and join the Adventist church to be saved (Early Writings, p. 261
). He said that salvation was derived from good works, not the grace of God (The
Great Controversy, pp. 480-482; Selected Messages, bk. 1, p. 377; Ibid, bk. 3,
p. 147) against Scripture (Romans 3.24 and 28, Ephesians 2.8 to 9, Titus 3.5 to
7). He said that the blood of Christ does not cancel the sin (Patriarch and Prop
hets, p. 357) against the provisions of the Scripture (Ephesians 1.7, 1 John 1.7
, Romans 5.9). He said he had heard the day and time of the Second Coming of Chr
ist (Early Writings, p. 15; Selected Messages, bk. 1, p. 76; The Great Controver
sy, p. 640; Testimonies for the Church, vol. I , p. 59) against what was taught
by Jesus in Acts 1.7.

• •

He said that up to October 22, 1844 Jesus did not ascend to the right hand of Go
d (The Great Controversy, p.480) against provisions in the Bible (Hebrews 1,3 an
d 13, from 10.11 to 12, Revelation 3 , 21, Acts 7.55 to 56). Confused with Herod
Antipas Herod Agrippa (Early Writings, pp. 185 186).

4. Ellen White taught as inspired by God were merely legendary statements: • • •
• • • • God offered to forgive Satan (The Great Controversy, pp. 495-496). Adam
was crowned king (SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 7a, p. 1082). The serpent of Genes
is had wings and flew (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 3, pp. 39-40). God held a council i
n heaven after the fall to decide what to do (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 3, p. 44). A
dam kept the Sabbath (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 3, p. 52). God took the Garden of Ed
en and will bring back to earth (Spiritual Gifts, vol. 5, p. 55). It takes seven
days to get to heaven (Early Writings, p. 16).
5. Ellen White made contradictory teachings claiming they had been inspired by G
od: • • Christ as God did not suffer on Calvary (Manuscript 140, 1903) and it su
ffered on Calvary (Manuscript 153, 1898).€God does not love children when they a
re wrong (Letter to his son Willie to March 14, 1860, An Appeal to the Youth, 18
64, pp. 42 and 62) and loves it when they do wrong (Signs of the Times, 15 Febru
ary 1892). Ellen White taught that the door of salvation was finally closed in 1
844 (Chart B-3-1847, Joseph Bates, July 13, 1874, Present Truth, pp. 21-22, Augu
st 1849) and not closed in 1844 (Selected Messages, vol. I, pp. 63, 74). Ellen W
hite taught that pork is a healthy and nutritious food should be consumed (Testi
monies for the Church, vol. I, pp. 206-207) and that pork should not be eaten un
der any circumstances (Selected Messages, bk. 2 , p. 417, Spiritual Gifts, vol.
4a, p. 124; Testimonies for the Church, vol. 2, p. 94).

Ellen White taught that there is consciousness after death (Early Writings, p. 2
94) and there was no consciousness after death (The Great Controversy, p. 545).
Ellen White taught that the plan of salvation existed since the fall of Adam (Se
lected Messages, bk. 1, pp, 231-232) and existed from eternity (The Desire of Ag
es, p. 147).

6. Ellen White's writings that were presented as inspired in large part, plagiar
ism and this fact is known, and hidden "by some Adventist leaders (Charter of WW
Prescott to WC White, the son of Ellen White, of April 6, 1915 , letter to Guy
C. Farnsworth Vesta Jorgensen of December 1, 1921, Arthur White, grandson of Ell
en White, January 18, 1981). Veltman The report, commissioned by the sect itself
in an attempt to clean up the reputation of their prophet, makes it clear that
Ellen White had massively used material from other authors (even present it as i
nspired by God.) As noted by D. R. McAdams, "If every paragraph in The Great Con
troversy take notes as footnotes in accordance with accepted practice, giving cr
edit where you have to give, almost every paragraph would have to carry a footno
te on page." The repression by the authorities Adventists on those who dare expo
se the truth about the prophet White-date the number of pastors punished well be
yond the hundred-shows to what extent the Seventh-Day Adventism is a cult which,
moreover, has given rise to other sects. Major divisions of the Seventh Day Adv
entists have been Urantia Society-point connection between the classical and UFO
cults, and the Branch Davidians, protagonists of the tragedy of Waco.
