lution The Hkey Limitation Restriction
1: The theoretical point:
Computer memory, we had never seen it so complicated. Here's a staggering data o
n all the settings on your computer. Obviously, the more you add software or per
ipherals to your computer over the registry will look like an incredible gas pla
nt. Nevertheless, and with a little dexterity, you can play on parameters inacce
ssible by standard configuration menus. Moreover, many problems can be solved by
simply restoring the registry. One thinks of a display issue or device in gener
al. If, a priori, everything was working perfectly before a restoration of the r
egistry is likely to solve your problem.
2: The basic command:
Click on "Start" - "run" and you type "regedit".
3: Structure of the registry:
The same type of tree that Windows Explorer ... In much more complex! We think o
f the family tree of an army of ants ...
Six major issues chair for this mysterious organization:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT: Contains the structure of file types, extensions, their short
cuts, OLE links, etc.. HKEY_CURRENT_USER: Caring individual comfort of users cur
rently reported (opening music, color of the mouse, various charms affixed to th
e desktop and all the rest ...). HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE: Contains information about
your hardware and the settings of installed software. HKEY_USERS: Here are recor
ded all user profiles (if that is attempted you have created). Unlike HKCU which
deals only with the user currently logged on. HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG: Resumes HKLM
information regardless of user profiles. HKEY_DYN_DATA: Manages particularly th
e dynamic parameters of Windows. In short, all data that are constantly modified
. Warning: when you create new keys compliance uppercase or lowercase is essenti
al!
4: Make a backup of the registry:
Click "Start" then "Run". Type: msinfo32.exe click OK. Open the "Microsoft Syste
m Information". Click on "Tools" then "Check Register" and confirm with OK again
. Windows comes back up your registry. This is the kind of manipulation to be do
ne before any tricky maneuver!
5: Saving a key to the registry:
REG files are files that can merge data directly into the Windows registry. They
are in text format and can be edited by any editor type Notepad. The "Export" o
ption allows you to save a previous version of your key. A file of this type has
the extension. Reg beginning with: REGEDIT4 It then shows the address to edit k
eys in square brackets []. On the line below the key value entered in quotation
marks. For example: REGEDIT4 - [HKEY_USERS \. Default \ Control Panel \ Microsof
t Input Devices \ Keyboard] "Num Lock" = "ON" Open Base register and select "Exp
ort Registry File" menu Registries. Enter a name for the backup file. By double-
clicking on the latest file you just created, you will restore the original sett
ings for this key.
6: Restore the registry:
Lucky, Windows makes a backup of the registry. To restore a copy, go to fashion
Msdos. From C: or C: \ windows type: C: \ scanreg [] / restore Appear then backu
ps of the Windows registry. It is, by default, the date of the most recent copy
is selected. A priori, it is this or that which was saved just before the onset
of the problem that must be selected. Confirm with the Enter key. Press enter ag
ain to restart Windows. Note: You can start restoring by booting from CD-ROM Win
dows 98 and typing from: D: \ win98scanreg [] / restore
7: Restore the Registry in Windows Millennium:
Reboot from the CD-ROM Win ME. You are on A: Type D:
D: \ [] cd [] win9x D: \ win9x D: \ win9x \ scanreg [] / restore Note: command s
canreg / opt optimizes your registry. The command scanreg / fix is supposed to f
ix it ...€Note: You can also boot in Safe Mode and then click "Start" - "Run", t
ype: scanreg / restore, but this operation seems less certain ...
8: If Windows tells you that this copy contains errors:
Press the Esc key on the keyboard. Select with the arrow keys on the keyboard, a
n older copy. Windows logs all events in the life of your computer in this monum
ental table of contents. Over the copy is remote in time, the chances of success
are dwindling ...
9: After the restoration, offers the Windows Start menu:
Force the normal mode (option 1). If Windows is frozen, boot into Safe Mode (opt
ion 3). Then restart in normal mode. Courage! And cross your fingers safe!
10: An. Dll is missing after you restore the registry:

n "Edit" - "search." In "name", type the search string. For example: Dfs.vxd. Ma
ke sure "whole word only" is checked. This reduces the risk of selecting and the
n deleting unnecessary a valid entry. Click "Next". Displays a window: "search i
n the registry. Although it is the air to bed, Windows, in fact, is struggling v
ery hard to satisfy you! The first entry is set to shine.
Note: oddly, it must close and reopen the registry to launch a new search if the
latter continues from the last entry found in the previous query.
13: Change or remove an entry in the registry:
For example: the entry found "Vnetbios.vxd" is set to shine. To remove: just rig
ht click it and choose this option. Confirm with YES. You will notice that Windo
ws automatically selects the next entry. This, do not delete! Simply repeat the
search by pressing the F3 key on the keyboard. And so on until Windows displays
"search completed". You must restart for the changes are taken into account.
14: Create a new key and assign it a value:
Open the branch in which you want to place your key. For example: HKEY_CURRENT_U
SER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Expl increasi
ng the machine In the right pane right click the mouse and select "New Key". Ent
er a name for it. It will automatically move to the left under the key "parent".

its name is "new value" and the value entered is 0 or "". You can also rename or
return, for example, the value 1 by double-clicking it. Note: Most changes will
be validated after restart. A tip saves time: Simultaneously press the CTRL + A
LT + DEL. On the menu that appears, select "Explorer" and click "End Task". A fe
w seconds later Windows is like new!

n / Policies / Explorer. In the right window, there is a right-click Autorun and
type NoDrives modifies the value "00 00 B5 00" (or whatever) by "95 00 00 00 00
. Note: If the value is correct, you may find another value of the name "CDRAUTO
RUN. Right click and choose "Delete". Upon restart, the situation returned to no
rmal ...
16: Resolve conflict on the hard disk controllers:
Double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / System / Current Control Set / Services / Vxd
/ Ios. In the right window, there is a right-click the flag "no IDE" We chose "e

none of these keys are processed when Windows starts in Safe Mode.
23: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:
The largest branch is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE because it stores the data of hardware,
software and security. It contains data on the local computer system, including
hardware data and operating system. for example the type of bus, system memory,
device drivers and data controlling the start. In this branch you make the most
changes. * The branch contains seven main keys:
23-1: HARDWARE:
This part describes the physical hardware powering the computer, the way device
drivers use the material as well as tables of correspondence and related data th
at link the nuclei mode drivers to various codes of user mode. All data in this
key are volatile, which means that the parameters are recalculated at each syste
m startup, then lost when the system is off.
23-2: SAM and SECURITY:
The key SAM Accounts Manager of safety, and SECURITY are not visible data becaus

It is the database software by computer. This key contains data about software i
nstalled on the local computer, and various configuration data. The entries in t
his pointer apply to any user working on that computer, it shows what software i

23-5: HKEY_CURRENT_USER:
The branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER contains: the profile of the user who opened the se
ssion environment variables program groups personal desktop settings network con
nections, printers, application preferences.
23-6: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT:
The branch HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT contains data on file associations (equivalent to t
he registry in Windows for MS DOS) and the data necessary to support OLE (Object
Linking and Embedding) Microsoft. This branch is a clone of the data contained
in the view of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and she is separated for reasons of convenienc
e of use, because the branch MACHINE is very large and complex. The subkey CLASS
defines the types of documents, providing data on extension associations and OL
E names used by Windows shell applications and OLE applications. HKEY_CLASSES_RO
OT: Displays the same data stored in this subkey [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE]. OLE data
to be created by the specific application by using the Registry Editor to modify
