PET bottles

Gentlemen: There are about five years, I have been using soda bottles as aggrega
te material for construction and building. The PET bottles are designed that way
all round to allow a very thin wall can withstand a pressure as large (180 lbs)
, and a great agility in the face of shocks. Like the egg, the PET bottle is mad
e not to crack, unless you suffer some trauma injuries. My first experience of w
eight was the grounding of a gully, for the construction of a path. A small road
, where the bottles filled with water, were neatly spread, spreading ground betw
een them, a small excess layer. The secret is that the clay compact between the
bottles, equalizing the pressures inside and outside, which turns everything int
o an 'almost nothing'. We took the empty bottles, filling the spot, saving lots
of energy and material deposition. The bottle should contain water, to enjoy the
quality of the liquid, which is the incompressibility. That is, the bottle turn
s to stone. In the same way we did with a cement sidewalk to the floor of an ice
cream parlor. Espalahadas bottles, covered by a thick layer of cement to 3 X a
sand and cement. Without gravel. About six hundred of them replaced very mineral
that was not consumed at the same time keeps the bottle and tucked away inside,
filled with water for the next four hundred years. If we do not learn to take c
are of water, we need it well before.
Makes about three years, we are using bottles to replace clay bricks. The amount
of bottles to fill a square meter is the same as would be brick six holes. Abou
t thirty bottles. These details are arranged horizontally, bagged in a package o
f onion (yellow or red those bags, raffia) horizontally, taking advantage of the
funds to fit each other, Thus, we gain a lateral structure, since the bottlenec
ks tie the iron rods of 4.2 or bamboo, which will keep the walled cylinders. To
help the firmness of the wall extends a wire annealed over the seat of the bottl
es. This wire will ensure a 'squeeze', increasing the firmness of the structure.
What we gain is a sequence of spaces where we will have great mass of cement, w
ith another where the outer wall of the bottle is fairly thin. Our walls are thi
rteen inches thick. I like to remember that the support structure of the wall (c
olumns) is not changed, except a possible reduction in size due to the decrease
in weight of the walls. So far we have mounted earthen walls, which has not alte
red the structure of the building. The only thing we did was shove bottles in th
e box girder of the soil. I'm trying to put the photos we have a site, to provok
e discussion and criticism. The logic of the wall is quite simple. Lightweight a
nd comfortable thermo-acoustic, and a mooring on the wall that virtually prevent
the disruption. If someone hits with a sledgehammer and wins it back, because t
he structure vibrates but does not break. In addition, rebar and bagged bottles,
difficult any attempt to enter, unlike the bricks, which have a low impact stre
ngth. As for thermal comfort, not to say much. Large air bubbles stopped, formin
g a real duvet. We seek to rescue the technique so badly treated, those who live
d here originally, what is the stick-apique,
stucco or adobe. If before, and now in the suburbs, the houses are dismantled by
the lack of cement, today we have a number of facility elements waterproofing,
which allows us to use until the paper mache as a way to aggregate, coating with
these products, especially in the walls internal. There are some products that
when implemented, are win cardboard texture of cement. Except that when we are n
ot venturing into the products 'alternative' to fill, because the important thin
g is to add the bottle in the process. I have been following news of some new de
velopments in this line, through the press touches, but all the models I met err
by not aggregating factor 'convenience' to their alternatives. I saw a story of
someone who made the transverse walls with bottles filled with sand. I love to
make a trench. That wall is no more or rifle bullet, because the man did a nice
box of retention. Here at UFSC, a laboratory of the Department of Architecture h
ttp://www.arq.ufsc.br/labsisco/labsisco.html is developing a project with the us
e of bottles. We differ in the structure of the proposal, when they defend the '
industrialization' of the process,€through the construction of prefabricated sl
abs, which would be mounted on a commercial structure. For me, it only makes sen
se to mount the plates in the warehouse sorting Cooperative Pickers, leaving the
piece of masonry to be performed on site. As for the motivations of the governm
ent, believe that the market for recycled PET, such as conversion of raw materia
l, have not stabilized. Experiences such as mine, are the result of a completely
averse to this logic, which begins when one considers the product as an availab
le resource, not as a problem. Anyway, to systematize the proposal is not easy,
because it brings the principle of self management and autonomy to the current p
attern of domination by passing the
operating company and modern consumer. On the other hand, when I went to buy a q
uantity of bottles in a cooperative of triage, saying they would with a house, t
he lady who attended me asked: "gee, do not you think that my life is a waste to
o, to make a home with more junk? I replied: Junk my ass. Raw material of excell
ent quality. Anyway, guys, if someone wanted to think, here's the good prose. I
promise pictures of some 'work' soon. Incidentally, I tried to send to list, but
the message came back. I put myself at their disposal, while I apologize for th
e 'wilderness' of the message. Greetings constructive and recycled Luiz Carlos P
ereira Caro and other guys: I do not know if I condone or celebrate your laughte
r, in touch with my 'nonsense' technology. I acknowledge that the idea so crazy
deserves grace. So I did my best not to be boring. Let Carlos pras questions, be
cause the pictures only make viable next week, when getting access to a scanner.
They will leave for sure. 1 - In the first solution, which is filling the land,
instead of water, could use sand?? what do you think of replacing?? I used the
water as she was passing by the creek, along the gully. My problem here was prec
isely the lack of it, which was lost by erosion. There would be no problem using
any other type of filling. If the bottle is hidden in cement, for example, or i
n the lower layers of the stack of them, might as well be empty. This is because
the outer material will adjust and compress, 'ignoring' the presence of the bot
tle. This at the same format, designed to support expansion, compression and cra
cks. Only it can not use cutting and piercing material to compress. In the case
of road construction, intended to show
exactly the limit of the optimization of my energy and sweat. I put over a thous
and bottles, representing two cubic meters of soil that did not need to remove.
2 - On the walls ... a well-known filled bottles of rice husk (free here in the
region) you think necessary?? not quite understand the placement of 4.2 on the b
ottlenecks, you would have a design?? There is no better insulator than the stil
l air. Whatever the straw inside a body with air, this will serve to drive the w
aves of heat. Here we put sawdust in the mass of the coating, as a substitute fo
r sand. We did a mixture of 5 parts of clay, five of sawdust and cement for the
filling procedure. It is a mixture similar to adobe. Iron 4.2 is that thin, to b
uild concrete steps on the frames. If deitrares a series of bottles, a side by s
ide, and tie an iron over the bottlenecks along that ledge at the base of the li
d, get a 'plank' bottles. Thus we do with them standing. The four rods of 4.2 al
ready serve as a structural element of the wall, poi in the region of the bottle
necks we have a place where there is enough mass, to decrease the diameter cone.
This structure will be decisive for the distribution of stresses on the wall. I
remember the principle of mortar and shell of the egg. Internally, you have a s
tructure in the form of several cups of cement-retained a highly resistant plast
ic. also the issue of wire cooked (burned here, will be the same??) passing thro
ugh the seat of the bottles. you said in walls of 13cm, the PET bottle is 9.8 cm
, the rest is plaster?? and the plaster and glue on the surface of the bottle??
The most effective way of fixing the mass cylinder was set up within the walls o
f the bags of onion or orange (or yellow ones
red). At the time of filling, we use the plaster as base. Clay, sand or straw, c
ement (if you have, you can use ashes), or even mortar plastering, will be 'prin
ted' on the wall, practically rubbing his body on the bottles. After fixing the
inner layer, it can be trickling and tow, if the kernel is more 'soft', or fill
to the desired thickness if the coating is of mortar grout.€I always like to re
member that each one makes the house with the stiffness and strength as he pleas
es. When we did the beam, since we buried a bamboo pole, where the wires were st
rung wire (I speak from that very thin, which he uses to tie the structures of i
ron). The wire near the bottom (in the bottles has a risk just before sharp curv
es), which follows with the bottles to the ceiling will help give them a squeeze
, helping to keep the wall plumb. there is no possibility of getting cracked pla
ster, the expansion and compression of the air cylinders for changes in temperat
ure?? like I said - maybe the photo avoid all these questions. The advantage of
the bottle, which would be the same if I used bamboo canes, is that it expands s
lightly. First because it was blown under high temperature, to achieve that form
at. Then the proper format. As for temperature, which most feel is the differenc
e between the two sides of the walls. Well, I ask once more descriptive understa
nding for possible flaws, suggesting that the parties do more excited to experie
nce small assemblies. My biggest thrill was seeing a replica of a structure of h
ouse that I presented at a symposium on 'Junk' to be made for a dog house. Exper
ience. Rex will love it. Greetings explanatory Luiz Pereira
