BOARD OF STUDIES FOR B.VOC / MINUTES OF THE MEETING

The meeting of BoS of Electrical & Electronics Engineering department for the B.VoC Course
(Troubleshooting and maintenance in Electrical and Electronics equipment) was held on 10.12.2016 at 11 AM
in the EEE department meeting hall. The meeting was chaired by Dr.P.Aruna Jeyanthy, HoD/EEE. The
following members have attended the meeting.

The Head of the department welcomed the BoS committee and gave the introduction regarding the
initiation of new course B.Voc (Troubleshooting and maintenance in Electrical and Electronics Equipment) in
the EEE department for the forthcoming academic year.
 After a detailed discussion, the committee has approved the course. The changes and suggestions
were made in the syllabus.
The following changes were proposed in the curriculum and are listed as follows:

The committee members suggested to add Basic Electrical Engineering and Basic Electrical
lab in the first semester instead of Electrical Circuits.
The committee members suggested to consider safety measure as one unit in basic electrical
engineering subject itself instead of one separate subject as electrical safety in fourth
semester.
The committee members suggested to add more number of troubleshooting experiments since
it has more weightage in skill component.
The committee members suggested to add basic fundamentals of computer and corresponding
basic computer lab in the second semester.
The committee members suggested to include digital electronics in computer hardware and
merge the subject as electronics and computer hardware with corresponding laboratory in the
sixth semester.
The committee members suggested to add excel sheet formula calculation and instead of
matrices, determinant and Eigen vector, add group-IV examination mathematics syllabus in
workshop calculation subject in the first semester.
The committee members suggested to merge both the subjects content (Electrical Lighting
System and Domestic Appliances) in the second semester into one. In Domestic appliances,
inclusion of induction stove was considered.
The committee members suggested to include Electrical Circuit in Electronics Circuits in
third semester.
The committee members suggested to include Communication Skill Lab for improving
vocabulary and communication skill in the first semester.
The committee members suggested to add Biomedical Instrumentation Subject in the
curriculum since it has wide opportunity for students in that particular field in the fourth
semester.
The committee members suggested to remove microcontroller subject and asked to add
Power Electronics Subject and corresponding power electronics laboratory.
The committee members suggested to include Special Electrical Machines and winding as a
theory paper.
The committee members suggested to add solar power plant and other renewables in power
plant engineering.

After discussion, the board has approved the changes in B.VoC curriculum and syllabus.

At the end, the chairman thanked all the members of BoS for their contribution in revising the B.VoC
curriculum and syllabus.

The meeting concluded at 12.30 PM.
