INTRODUCTION

Students will expose to the apparatus and the procedure of compression

experiment and to determine the strength of hardened concrete that was add
admixture. In our concrete, we use molasses as our admixture.

Modern concrete mix designs can be complex. The choice of a concrete mix
depends on the need of the project both in terms of strength and appearance
and in relation to local legislation and building codes.

The design begins by determining the requirements of the concrete. These

requirements take into consideration the weather conditions that the concrete
will be exposed to in service, and the required design strength. The compressive
strength of a concrete is determined by taking standard moulded, standard-
cured cylinder samples.

OBJECTIVE

To determine the strength of concrete by using molasses as admixtures.

SCENARIO

Nowadays in civil industry concrete is widely used for construction. But in certain
situation concrete can be used in all places because of its setting time. So that
retarders are used in the concrete composition to improve the setting time with
different type of admixtures. In this context we will try to use molasses in the
concrete as a water reducing and time retarding admixture.

BASIC CONCEPTS

Concrete is a mixture of cement, water and aggregates. Proportions of

ingredients are adjusted to produce a well-balanced concrete.

Compressive strength of concrete depends on many factors such as water-

cement ratio, types of cement, quality of concrete material and quality control
during production of concrete.

On this time we will use molasses as admixture for our concrete. Molasses
can be produced from sugar beet and sugarcane. It is the waste floating on the
surface of boiling sugar juice during the processes of production of sugar is
taken. When sugar is extracting from the sugar juice some amount of sugar is
remain the waste liquid material which is called as molasses, and sugar includes
carbohydrates and functions as a retarder.

The advantage by using molasses as admixture to our concrete that will

affected to strength of concrete is, by using molasses as admixture in our
concrete, based on our research, the strength of concrete will increase. That
because, molasses as time retarding admixture.
