Activity: RAK: Creating a Culture of Kindness
Grade(s): 7th and 8th grade
ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors (Domain/Standard):

Learning Objective(s) (aligns with competency):

Random Act of Kindness Direction Sheet, 6 Dice, Random Act of Kindness Awards,
Materials:
pre and post tests, pens/pencils

Introduce pre-test. Discuss past acts of kindness that students have participated in during the past week. Discuss how the
Procedure: acts of kindness make a student feel when they receive kindness v. when they give kindness. Introduce the RAK initiative for
the school community. Split the class into 6 groups. Each student rolls the die and is awarded a "Random Act of
Kindness" (RAK). They are encouraged to enact this behavior in the following week and to recognize and award their peers
for pursuing RAKs. Display RAK recognition and awards. One recognition award will allow your name to be placed in the
RAK monthly drawing for community gift cards, school apparel, or one free hall pass. Introduce post test and collect results.

Plan for Evaluation: How will each of the following be collected?


Each 7th and 8th grade advisory period will participate in a 20 minute community of kindness introduction.
Process Data: The lesson will introduce a new initiative at the school to begin participating in a Random Act of Kindness
(RAK) where students will be encouraged, recognized, and rewarded for prosocial behaviors.

90% of the students involved in the lesson plan will be able to identify at least two

possible random acts of kindness that they can participate in during the next upcoming
week.

7th and 8th graders attendance rates will increase by 15%


Outcome Data:

Each advisory teacher will be left with the 6 dice to be repeated each advisory period to

increases will signify a culture of kindness within the school.
