Abstract- A good transportation system has an impact on economic growth of any country. In developing country like
India needs safe and reliable transportation system, this can have broader implication on its development. Existing users
gain information about most bus & train schedule via printed pages or web pages maintained by central transportation
system like Indian Railway. Similarly in infrastructure less rural areas users find difficult to get information about
transportation. For traveling, the travelers want to know the accurate arrival time of the bus. The traveler has to wait
for a long time at the bus stop. Nowadays most bus operating companies offer their timetables on the web and its freely
available. The bus timetables, however, only provide very limited information (e.g. Operating hours, time interval, etc.),
which are typically not timely updated. The schedule of the bus delayed due to unpredictable reason like heavy traffic,
weather situation etc. So the accuracy of these systems is questionable. To accurate arrival at next bus will also allow
travelers to take alternative transport choices instead and thus mitigate their anxiety and improve their experience.

I. INTRODUCTION

This paper presents a transportation systems localization system using GPS and GSM-SMS facilities with the ad-hoc
network for no of the transportation unit. The system permits localization of the transportation and communicating the
position base station server and no of factor SMS transmitted and received the server as per requirement to the owner on
his mobile phone as a request. The system can be connected to the transportation vehicle alarm system and alert the
owner on his mobile phone via the server. This tracking system is composed of a GPS receiver, Microcontroller, and a
GSM Modem. GPS Receiver develops the location information from satellites in the form of latitude and longitude.
Processes this information and this processed information are sent to the user/owner using GSM modem. (SMS) Systems
software received data and resulted speed also gets the speed of the vehicle and sends it to user/owner. The offered
application is a low-cost result for transportation position and status, very useful in case of car theft situations, for
observing young drivers by their parents as well as in car tracking system applications. The future solution can be used in
other types of application, where the information needed is requested rarely and an irregular period of time (when
requested). In this system, Vehicle airbag is also can be interfaced. This allows it to monitor the accident situations and it
can directly alert the police/ambulance service with the location of an accident. Transportation of goods and people is key
to economic and human growth. This study discusses the development of the TIS system, a transportation information
system that uses GPS, GSM, and SMS technologies. The TIS system will be established in response to transportation
challenges experienced in villages, a developing area with poor infrastructure and limited resources; thus, the results of
this research are extensible to other selected developing areas with limited resources, fragile road infrastructure, resource-
constrained central government authority, and ad-hoc transportation resources for both inter- and intra-city transport.

II. OBJECTIVE

The objective of this work is to build a GIS-based Public Transport Information System. The GIS-based public Transport
Information System will include the following services.
a) Bus stop allocation.
b) Fastest and Shortest route for the buses.
c) Automatic Vehicle Location.
In addition, this work aims to study how a public Transport Information System may develop the transportation security.

III. PROPOSED WORK

Nowadays there are many types of wireless access networks available including the vehicular ad hoc network (VANET).
There are many features available like real-time, high-availability, and high-bandwidth. Vehicular ad hoc network
(VANET) plays an important role in communication in the future in Intelligent Transport System (ITS).It is essential to
use joint heterogeneous networks like Wireless Area Networks (WLAN), Universal Mobile Telecommunications
Systems (UMTS) and Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) for connection support. For performance and high-
availability, seamless Vertical Handoff (VHO) is a necessary connection because it needs to switch between
heterogeneous networks. For wireless access network, the algorithm can be added that is not only for balancing base
stations and access points but also increase the battery lifetime of mobile nodes.

IV. METHODOLOGY

Vehicle safety is a major concern for all car owners. Owners and researchers are always looking for new and improved
vehicle safety systems. For the modernization of technology, it is now possible to track the vehicle in real time and
closely monitor and review the history of vehicle movements. One should be grateful, Vehicle Tracking System, which
greatly contributed to the safety of the vehicle by pursuing its activities at regular intervals. The system uses the Global
Positioning System [GPS] to find and then send satellite for latitude and longitude to the monitoring center information
on the location of the monitored vehicle. In the Monitoring Center, the vehicle is displayed on the Google map with the
help of software1 . So chase our Automobile system in real time. Due to the real-time tracking system, vehicle tracking
systems are becoming increasingly popular with vehicle owners as they continuously monitor their capable vehicles. The
control equipment is installed inside the vehicle which is not visible from the outside of the vehicle. Therefore, it
functions as a secret unit, which continuously transmits the coordinates to the monitoring center.

Effects of introducing tracking system in a vehicle:

Vehicle tracking systems are often used by fleet operators for fleet management functions such as fleet tracking, routing,
transport, onboard information, and security2. Commercial fleet operators, as well as urban transport companies use this
system for various purposes that include monitoring schedules of buses in service, triggering any change of buses'
destination and manage per-recorded announcements for passengers.
The American Public Transportation Association estimated that about half of public buses in the US in 2009, a tracking
system began earlier this year to trigger automated stoppage customers and already on-board passengers making
important announcements 2 ; This includes third party advertisements which are triggered by the opening of bus door at a
bus stop and the number of the route and destination of the vehicle to announce, especially for the purposes of visual
identification of the next stop, as the bus a stop approaches.

Benefits of the Vehicle Tracking System:

The vehicle or unit tracking device cooperates with a central server and software. The user or owner of a car, to know the
whereabouts of their own vehicle, certainly comes with several advantages The GPS and GSM installed vehicle retrieves
their location information and sends it at regular intervals to the owners in order to maintain it, if updated. As all relevant
information is displayed on the screen, it is very convenient for the user to monitor and measures in case of emergency.
Monitoring prevents dangerous and inefficient driving practices by drivers, which lead to increased vehicle safety and
driving safety3. The vehicle tracking system plays a crucial role when it is used in any company or organization for any
kind of delivery purposes. Since the driver is aware of the fact that the car is constantly monitored, so be careful while
driving and shortest route to reach the destination in time 4 . This system can be referred to as anti-theft tracking system
because this yet advanced affordable system ensures the recovery of stolen vehicles. If the vehicle is not hit at a
designated location or used by an unauthorized user, the location can be monitored and reported to the police in order to
reach the unauthorized place where the vehicle lives, and therefore this tracking system also ensures the safety of the
vehicle5.

VI. THE WEB APPLICATION

The web application called "tracking system" is shown in the figures, representing the entire production of the system. In
this system, two applications are being developed, which are linked together.
First, it is used to maintain the original position of the (starting point) of the vehicle, and since the system will receive the
different coordinates (longitude and latitude), the switching is done to the side, the distance traveled S / W of the two
positions is obtained.
Both applications are user friendly .i.e. new users can be comfortable.
As the Web-based user can easily change their requirements
Shows the exact position of the target.
The applications also alert for the distance between the target lane and also the routes that reach the target6.

VII. LITERATURE REVIEW

In this paper, authors studied the concept and suggest the methodology capable replicating reconstructed traffic
conditions for the whole road network from GPS tracks generated by public transportation vehicles. The proposed
approach helps to calculate time of a ride between two pairs of addresses located not more than 15 kilometers (in a
straight line) apart with the Mean Absolute Percentage Error of just over 20 percent. The distinctive feature of the
research presented here is the calculation of the load values of those edges of transport networks that were lacking GPS
data with the help of load values of the adjacent edges. The approach is based on the calculation of the travel time based
on the obtained values on transport load and its comparison with the known travel time values. In this research the data
on passenger vehicles travel time between pairs of different addresses is being used the service provides information
about the shortest route considering the current load of the transport network 7.

VIII. FUTURE SCOPE

In our work, we have used PIC as a microcontroller, which is used for connection to different peripherals. The current
project is an embedded application that continuously monitors a running vehicle and reports the status of the vehicle on
demand. For this, the Arduino is connected in series to a GSM modem and SIM908 GPS receiver. The GPS receiver
continuously produces data. The width and length, which indicates the position of the vehicle A GSM modem is used to
send the location (latitude and longitude) of the vehicle from a remote area. The GPS modem has many parameters as
output. The data is sent to the mobile phone of the user who requested the position of the vehicle; it also stores the data in
the database for future use.
