Introduction: What is Mechanical Engineering?

Mechanical engineering is a diverse subject that derives its breadth from the
need to design and manufacture everything from small individual parts and devices
(e.g., microscale sensors and inkjet printer nozzles) to large systems (e.g., spacecraft
and machine tools). The role of a mechanical engineer is to take a product from an idea
to the marketplace. In order to accomplish this, a broad range of skills are needed. The
mechanical engineer needs to acquire particular skills and knowledge. He/she needs to
understand the forces and the thermal environment that a product, its parts, or its
subsystems will encounter; to design them for functionality, aesthetics, and the ability to
withstand the forces and the thermal environment they will be subjected to; and to
determine the best way to manufacture them and ensure they will operate without
failure. Perhaps the one skill that is the mechanical engineers exclusive domain is the
ability to analyze and design objects and systems with motion.

Since these skills are required for virtually everything that is made, mechanical
engineering is perhaps the broadest and most diverse of engineering disciplines.
Mechanical engineers play a central role in such industries as automotive (from the car
chassis to its every subsystemengine, transmission, sensors); aerospace (airplanes,
aircraft engines, control systems for airplanes and spacecraft); biotechnology (implants,
prosthetic devices, fluidic systems for pharmaceutical industries); computers and
electronics (disk drives, printers, cooling systems, semiconductor tools);
microelectromechanical systems, or MEMS (sensors, actuators, micro power
generation); energy conversion (gas turbines, wind turbines, solar energy, fuel cells);
environmental control (HVAC, air-conditioning, refrigeration, compressors); automation
(robots, data and image acquisition, recognition, control); manufacturing (machining,
machine tools, prototyping, microfabrication).

To put it simply, mechanical engineering deals with anything that moves, including the
human body, a very complex machine. Mechanical engineers learn about materials,
solid and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, control, instrumentation,
design, and manufacturing to understand mechanical systems. Specialized mechanical
engineering subjects include biomechanics, cartilage-tissue engineering, energy
conversion, laser-assisted materials processing, combustion, MEMS, microfluidic
devices, fracture mechanics, Nano mechanics, mechanisms, micro power generation,
tribology (friction and wear), and vibrations. The American Society of Mechanical
Engineers (ASME) currently lists 36 technical divisions, from advanced energy systems
and aerospace engineering to solid-waste engineering and textile engineering.

The breadth of the mechanical engineering discipline allows students a variety of career
options beyond some of the industries listed above. Regardless of the particular path
they envision for themselves after they graduate, their education will have provided
them with the creative thinking that allows them to design an exciting product or system,
the analytical tools to achieve their design goals, the ability to overcome all constraints,
and the teamwork needed to design, market, and produce a system. These valuable
skills could also launch a career in medicine, law, consulting, management, banking,
finance, and so on.

Educational Background

In year 2001, at age of 5, I started to become a nursery student at Saint Therese of

Rose School. My parents are working in the government service in NAMRIA (National
Mapping and Resources Institute Association) at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. My
mothers job is a cashier officer while my father is an Electrical Engineer. They are both
working in the office whole day and got home around 7pm-8pm. My aunt was my
guardian because my parents work together in their office.

My nursery life was cool because that was the time I learned some basic skills that
will help me in whole life like reading, counting and praying.

In year 2004, at age of 8, my elementary life has been started. I started at Saint
Dominic Academy until Grade 2. I enjoyed my life in Grade 1 and Grade 2 because
every Friday, after P.E class, we can play any time with my classmates.

My family and I migrated to Taguig City because my parents are really tired in their
travel from Novaliches to Taguig City back and forth. So they decided to hire an
apartment. In Grade 3, I studied at Armys Angels Integrated School. My experience in
Grade 3 is not totally good because as a new transferee or new student, sometimes I
bullied by one of my classmates, maybe because I entered the 1 st section in Grade 3.

In Grade 4, I transferred in 2nd section and as usual Im started bullied again

because my height was only 48. My experience in Grade 4 is happy because I learned
some main purpose of level in Mathematics. Ive always rank in the class and that was
first time in my elementary that Ive rank in Top 3 in a class.

In Grade 5, Im became a Secretary in a class. I belong in 2 nd section. I continue my

studies because it is really hard to compete in a class. My experience in Grade 5 is
really good because I learned how to speak in English and also I got Top 2 in a class.
In Grade 6, I belong now in 1st section but Im not now rank in a class because two
students in the class were a Valedictorian and Salutatorian. My experience in Grade 6is
very happy because even though Im not listed in Top 10, I became a chess varsity
player of a class because some teachers said that Im good in playing chess. I learned
also some more subjects and new topic in Mathematics.

After graduating, Im still in Armys Angels Integrated School because I late to enroll
in Taguig Science high school. In year 2010, at age of 14, my high school life begins. In
1st year high school, I belong to 1st section. The Mathematics is started to be difficult
because under this subject, we tackled about variables. I studied it well and understand
it but my grade in 1st year high school was great and not affected even though
sometimes I play computer games but I manage and balance it. Our adviser gave us a
certificate for our good standings and for our codename in a class. My codename in a
class is Prince Chess because Im the varsity of the class and I have many battles
encountered in different schools.

In 2nd year high school, I belong in 1st section but this time, I started bullied again
during 3rd and 4th Grading Period because they are jealously of being my varsity in
class. But my grade is not affected by them. I continue my studies as well as in
Mathematics and Biology, the study of living and non-living things.

My family and I migrated to Imus Cavite, because my parents bought now our new
own house because in my past elementary days up to 2 nd year high school, my parents
hired an apartment and pay monthly. In 3 rd year high school, I have lots of problem and
experience because I belong to 4th section and as a new transferee, they started bullied
me on the first day of school until the end of school days. They are bullied me since
when I got Top 1 from the class. All of this trials given to me, are not affected my
studies, as well as this was only a challenge to have a strong faith in God, but I do not
gave up as well as I continue my studies. I also learned Geometry and advanced
Physics.

In 4th year high school, I belong now in 2nd section because I got Top 1 in a class
during my 3rd year high school. Ive good and excitement experience when I was on 4 th
year high school because I have many friends, learned some high Mathematics like
Trigonometry and 2nd Edition of Physics or continuation of our Physics in 3 rd year high
school. During those days, I started to become a little comedian because sometimes I
play pick-up lines to my classmates especially a girl, sometimes a teacher. I am doing
this when the class is bored.

We also performed a symposium and our topic was Basketball and our group got
the highest points, and also we performed a thesis defense for our project in Research
subject. Our group also passed the thesis defense by helping each other. Luckily, I
passed all the subjects in 4th year high school and got an average of 90.82%.

Why chose Mechanical Engineering?

I chose Mechanical Engineering in three ways. First, Im very inspired in the

movie of Fast and the Furious 6. Im amazed and I liked sports car since when I was a
kid especially the designs and the model. My dream is to create my own car design.
Second, I want to follow my uncle because he is a Mechanical Engineer and third, I
want to have a high salary for my family and for my future.

Plans up to Graduation Day?

Id like to become a student who can really study harder and have a time
management to prioritize my studies. My grades will not failed in all subjects especially
in Math and Sciences and Major subjects. All I need to do is always pray with God with
actions and trust Him very well.

Foundation Engineering (3rd Year)

I will focused more on the Major subjects in Mechanical Engineering that I can
used when I become a Mechanical engineer like Thermodynamics that will give me a
high knowledge about the relationship of heat transfer and pressure. Machine Elements
that can help me to learn about the machines and its parts and Engineering Economics
that will improve my knowledge about Projects of Engineers.

Allied Courses (3rd & 4th Year)

I want to be allies are the Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electronic
and Communication Engineering Students, because I observed that theyre hardworking
students and I think that they can influence me in their techniques in studying and if it
works and theyre also want me in their courses, I will help them too. And I think we can
make our own designs someday about new technologies by the teamwork or helping
each other.

Professional Courses (4th & 5th Year)

I will practice my skills and earn new knowledge about the major subjects
especially in Automotive Engineering and Air Conditioning and Ventilation Systems that
will help me in my On-the-Job training to practice how to become a Mechanical
Engineer.

After Graduation

There are three ways to prepare my Board Exam, first I will focus on my past
lessons and review it twice or every day and more studies, and I will ask to my uncle
because he is a Mechanical Engineer that passed the board examination. Second I will
go to the bookstore and buy a book that related to Mechanical Engineers or search on
the internet about the other subject that can help me to improve my knowledge, skills
and have techniques. And also the best thing to do is to ask and pray to our Lord God to
bless me and help me to pass the Board Exam. If I cannot be a part of any car
production or company like Porsche Philippines, God will guide me to find another best
company for me.

The Next 3 Years

I want to become a part of Porsche Philippines like a Technical Staff, or any
position that I can apply my skills and knowledge. I will save me wages or salary to buy
or produce a house for my parents and after that my own house and my own car. I will
help my parents even I cant pay their sacrifices for me to become a Mechanical
Engineer because they are most important people to me.

Personal & Career Goals

I want to become a successful Mechanical Engineer, to be a part of a big

company especially in Porsche. I want to contribute and help them to become more
famous and have a more customers to buy in their sales. And also to have an own
Porsche Carrera GT, house and lot and especially for my parents to help in their lives.

PEFSI

Physical exact body, Good looking and presentable

Emotional less drama, positive thinking, avoid negative thinking and understanding

Financial have a high salary or wages that may support my families

Spiritual after all the blessings that I have received, I will not forget to serve, praise ,
glorify and thankful to Our Lord God because He is a most powerful of all and I continue
my duty until the Day of Judgement.

Intellectual have an intellect that can answer all questions of the Engineering students
especially the customers of my company.

Conclusion

To become a Mechanical Engineer is very difficult and challenging. You need to

sacrifice and manage your time especially in difficult subjects and always study hard by
means of prayers with actions because this is a key to success in life and it can solve all
your financial problems.
