TRANSLATION

Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline Project

ASEAN Energy Cooperation is a cooperation that is based on the promotion of stability

and sustainability in this region. Comprehensive health issue, safety and environment
which currently operates under the ASEAN Energy Cooperation in the years 2010-
2015. One of the major projects under such cooperation is the development of Trans-
ASEAN Gas Pipeline which ASEAN has assigned the ASEAN Council on Petroleum is
the main mechanism for implementing the project.
 The ASEAN Council on Petroleum has established a task force on ASEAN Gas
Pipeline Project and has prepared a master plan for a gas pipeline project linking
ASEAN by updating from the 1996 master plan for the development and the use of
natural gas in the region more in line with the current energy situation in the region.
At the 20th meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Energy at Bali, Indonesia, on July 2002,
ASEAN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning the natural gas
pipeline project linking ASEAN which aims to provide a broad framework for Member
States to cooperate for the project to completion.

Currently, ASEAN has 8 bilateral projects linking the natural gas pipeline in the total
length of 2319 kms. and has plans to construct eight additional projects in the future.
The gas field Natuna, east of the Indonesian is a major gas field supporting the
pipeline project in the region. Thailand has 5 collaborated projects linking the ASEAN
Gas Pipeline project. Three (3) projects have been completed.
