Abdul Khaliq (Athlete)


A Pakistani sprinter who was named The Flying Bird of Asia
(Parinda e Asia) by Indian PM Jawaharlal Nehru. He won 36
international gold, 15 silver, and 12 bronze medals for Pakistan. He
was born in a small village "Jand" in district Chakwal Punjab and
died on 10 March 1988 in Rawalpindi.

2. Bashir Ahmed (Martial Arts)


He was born on 12th October 1982 in Faisalabad is a Pakistani-
American mixed martial artist, who is known as the God Father of
mixed martial arts in Pakistan. He started training in Brazillian jiu-
jitsu in 2005 when MMA was booming in North America. He came to
Lahore in 2007 to promote MMA, and then went to Thailand for
further training. He returned to Pakistan in 2009 to set up a small
training gym in his own apartment. In 2012, he opened up a proper
gym named Synergy MMA Academy in Lahore.

3. Faizan Buzdar
A graduate of GIKI, he is CEO and founder of Convo, which is a
provider of cloud-based digital collaboration workspace for
companies. It helps companies, their teams where visual
conversations on files and content are critical to their business.
Convo eliminates the hassle of shifting between emails and
applications that makes the work more efficient. He believes that;
great products are designed for people, by people.

4. Ghulam Fareed Sabri


He is pride of Pakistan in the field of qawali, he was born in 1930 in
Rohtak, India. He was the leading member of Sabri Brothers qawali
group. He was awarded Prided of Performance by The President of
Pakistan in 1978. Bhar do Jholi Meri Ya Muhammad and Tajdar e
Haram are some of his renowned works. He died on 5 th April 1994 in
Karachi.

5. Hakeem Saeed
Born in January 1920 in Delhi. He was a prominent medical
researcher, scholar, philanthropist, and Governor of Sindh from
1993-1996. He made a name in medical research, particularly
Eastern medicines. He established Hamdard Foundation in 1948 that
became household name in Pakistan. He compiled over 200 books
on various topics, he was also founding member of World Cultural
Council. Unknown assailants martyred him on 17th October 1998.

6. Hashim Khan
He was a squash player born in a small village near Peshawar in
1910. He consecutively won British Open Squash Championship
(then the de facto world championship) from 1951-1956, and then
again in 1958. He died in August 2014 in USA.
7. Kamal Ahmed Rizvi
He was an actor and playwright, popularly known for his comedy
series Alif Noon. He was born in Bihar, India in 1930. He received
Pride of Performance Award form The President of Pakistan in 1989.
He died in December 2015 at Karachi.

8. Laraib Atta
She is daughter of popular singer, Attaullah Khan Isakehlevi. She is a
VFX artist from Pakistan, who has worked as visual effects artist in
several Hollywood projects. Some of her projects include 10,000 BC,
The Chroniclesof Narnia, Prince of Persia, Godzilla, and X-Men: Days
of Future Past.

9. Muniba Mazari
She is differently abled Pakistani painter, activist, artist, writer, and
motivational speaker. She was born on 3 rd March 1987 in Rahim Yar
Khan. In 2007, she met a dreadful car accident, which changed her
life. She was nominated as UN Women Ambassador in Pakistan and
also works as anchor in PTV.

10. Nusrat Fateh Ali


He is the legendary qawwal of Pakistan, who brought fame to his
motherland from all corners of the world. He was born in 1948 in
Faisalabad. His melodious voice earned him the title of Shehnsha e
Qawwali. He released background scores for movies in various
counties like India, Japan, USA, and European countries. He is one of
the most celebrated artists of Pakistan and received Pride of
Performance Award in 1987. NFAK died on 16 th August 1997 in
London at the age of 48.

11. Parveen Saeed (Khana Ghar)


Parveen Saeed, who holds a masters degree in journalism, has been
running the project for almost 23 years, providing food to the poor
of Karachi at an affordable price of just Rs. 3 per meal. The misery of
poor people at the hands of hunger motivated her to initiate the
project. Her Khana Ghar is located in Khuda Ki Basti, Taiser Town
Karachi. More than 2000 people are served lunch and dinner daily.

12. Ruth Pfau


Dr. Pfau is a German-Pakistani; she was born in Leipzig, Germany on
9th September 1929. She is a nun and member of Daughters of the
Heart of Mary. She came to Pakistan in 1960 and decided to
dedicate her life to the people of Pakistan. She has devoted more
than 50 years of her life to fight leprosy in Pakistan. In 1996,
Pakistan was declared by WHO to have controlled leprosy. She was
awarded Nishan-i-Pakistan and Nishan-i-Quaid-e-Azam for her
services.
13. Sadequain
He is world-renowned artist, best known for his skills as a painter
and calligrapher. He was born in Amroha, India in 1923. He is known
for the revival of Islamic calligraphy in Pakistan. He was received
Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance, and Sitar-e-Imtiaz from
Government of Pakistan, Biennale de Paris from Government of
France, and Cultural Award from Government of Australia. He died
on 10th February 1987 in Karachi.

14. Sameen Shahid (OFID)


Pakistans Ms. Sameen Shahid is winner of (The OPEC Fund for
International Development) OFIDs 2009 Scholarship. She obtained
admission for a Master in Public Administration Degree in
International Development at Harvard Universitys John F. Kennedy
School of Government. She obtained the scholarship in third series
of OFID. The award goes to highly qualified and motivated student
from a developing country after a rigorous selection procedure.

15. Sarmad Tariq


He was a storyteller and motivational speaker from Islamabad. He
was born in December 1975, at the age of 15 his left shoulder down
was paralysed after an accident and he was confined to the
wheelchair. He holds world record for longest non-stop drive by a
quadriplegic by driving his hand-controlled car for 33 hours from
Khyber to Karachi. He was first wheelchair-bound athlete to
participate in Lahore Marathon in 2005. Afterwards he represented
Pakistan in New York marathon. He died in April 2014 at the age of
38.

16. Shafi Muhammad


He was a Pakistani film and TV actor. He was born in Kandiaro, Sindh
on 1st January 1949. He began his career as radio presenter from
Hyderabad. He was introduced to the world as elite actor through
Teesra Kinara drama on PTV. Shafi has several popular drama
serials to his names. He is also recipient of Pride of Performance
Award.

17. Q U Shahab
He was eminent Urdu writer and civil servant of Pakistan. He was
born in Gilgit in 1920. He was a protg of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. He
was selected in Indian Civil Service in 1940. After independence he
served at various critical positions in Pakistani bureaucracy, such as
Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Commerce,
Principal Secretary of President of Pakistan, and Ambassador of
Pakistan to Holland in 1952. Shahab Nama and Maa Ji is his
renowned literary work. He died on 24th July 1986 in Islamabad.
18. Tahiti Qazi
She was teacher and principal of Army Public School, Peshawar that
was attacked in December 2014. As a result of deadly terrorist
attack she was martyred while defending her students in the face of
ruthless and merciless attackers. She was born on July 1, 1951 in
Mardan. To honour her valour and courage she was awarded Sitar-I-
Shujaat by the President of Pakistan in 2015.

19. Waheed Murad


He is a legendary film actor, producer, and scriptwriter. He was
famous for his expressions, tender voice and remarkable acting
talent. He is often referred to as Chocolate Hero. He received
Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Nigaar Award for his talent. He was born on 2 nd
October 1938 in Sialkot and died in 1983 in Karachi.

20. Yawar Hayat


He was a producer for PTV from 1965 to 2004. He is considered as
the chief architects of PTV drama serials in early days after the
television was introduced in Pakistan in 1964. He has several drama
serilas to his name such as Jhok Siyal, Farar, Goonj etc. to name a
few. He was born in Lahore, on 18 October 1943 and died on 3 rd
November 2016.

21. Zaheer Abbas


He is popularly refereed to as Asian Bradman for his talent in
mounting huge pile of runs as a batsman for Pakistan Cricket Team
from 1969-1985. In 1982/1983 he became the first player to score
three consecutive centuries in ODIs. He is currently president of
ICC. He was born in Sialkot, on 24th July 1947.

22. Zia Mohiuddin


He is an actor, producer, director, and TV broadcaster who has
worked in both Pakistani and British cinema. He was born in
Faisalabad, on 20th June 1933. His fans admire him for his excellent
skills in acting and dialogue delivery. Between 1969 and 1973 he
hosted hugely popular TV talk show The Zia Mohyeddin Show. He
is currently president of National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA)
from 2005. He received Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2012 by the President of
Pakistan.

23. Junaid Jamshed


He was a famous pop singer of Pakistan best known for his song Dil
Dil Pakistan. He was the lead singer of Vital Signs. Later in his life
he abandoned music and towards religion. He also has widely
popular clothing line to his name. He was born on 3rd September
1964 in Karachi. He demised in an air crash on 7th December 2016.
Places
1. Mazar-e-Quaid
It is the final resting place of founder of Pakistan, M. Ali Jinnah. It is
located in centre of Karachi. Famous architect Yahya Merchant
designed the mausoleum, and construction was started in 1960s
and it was opened on 2nd June 1970. Along with Quaid-e-Azam, his
sister Miss Fatima Jinnah, first PM of Pakistan Mr. Liaqat Ali Khan,
and other notable personalities are buried here. A large park
surrounds the mausoleum and houses the personal items used by
Jinnah in his life such as his cars, furniture, dresses etc. are
displayed.

3. Shalimar Bagh
It is a Mughal garden complex located in Lahore. Its construction
began in 1637 during the reign of Shah Jahan, and was completed in
1641. The Shalimar Gardens are laid out as Persian paradise garden.
It covers an area of 16 hectares in East of Lahores Walled City. In
1981, it was marked as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

4. Lahore Fort
It is commonly known as Shahi Qila, it is located at the Northern end
of Walled city of Lahore. The present design and structure of the fort
traces its origins to 1575, when the Mughal Emperor Akbar occupied
the site as a post to guard the northwest frontier of the empire. It is
listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site.

5. Khybar Pass
It is a mountain pass connecting Afghanistan and Pakistan, cutting
through the northeastern part of the Spin Ghar mountains. An
integral part of the ancient Silk Road, it is one of the oldest known
passes in the world. Throughout history it has been an
important trade route. Historically the Khybar Pass has been used
for the invasions of Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Mongols,
Mahmud Ghaznavi, Myhammad Ghouri etc.

6. Ziyarat Residency
It is where Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah spent the last two
months and ten days of his life. It is the most famous landmark of
the city, constructed in 1892 during the British Raj. The building is a
wooden structure, originally designed as a sanatorium before being
converted into the summer residence of the agent of the Governor
General. In 2013, the terrorists with rockets targeted the residence.
The wooden structure burned down to the ashes. The rehabilitation
work was immediately started and opened again in 2014 by PM of
Pakistan.
7. Islamia College Peshawar
It is a public research university, located in the midst of Peshawar.
Founded by the personal initiatives led by Sir S.A. Qayyum and Sir
George Roos-Keppel in 1913, it is one the oldest institution of higher
education in Pakistan, and its historical roots are traced from the
culminating point of the Aligarh Movement. Initially established
as Islamia College, it was granted university status by
the Government of Pakistan in 2008; the word college is retained in
its title for preserving its historical roots.

8. Pak Tea House


Pak Tea House is an intellectual teacaf located
in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan known for its association with
progressive academics and left-leaning South Asian intelligentsia. A
Sikh family set it up in 1932, after independence a local food
supplier Sirajuddin Ahmad renamed it as Pak Tea House. Its
attendees included likes of Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Ibn-e-Insha, Nasir
Kazmi, Intezar Hussain, Saadat HasanManto etc.

9. Faisalabad Ghanta Ghar


It is one of the oldest monumets in Pkistan that is still in its original
glory. The British Raj built it. The foundation of majestic Clock Tower
was laid on 14 November 1903 by the British lieutenant governor of
Punjab Sir Charles Riwaz. The clock is placed in the center of eight
markets that form a view of Union Jack.

10. Ranipur Fort


It is the worlds largest fort also known as the Great Wall of Sindh as
it has a circumference of 26 KMs. It was established before the
Kalhora reign of Sindh (1701 to 1783 AD). A unique City between
two canals Rohri Canal on East and Abul Canal on West.

11. Faisal Mosque


Located on the foothills of Margalla Hills in Islamabad, the mosque
features a contemporary design consisting of eight sides of concrete
shell and is inspired by a Bedouin tent. Construction of the mosque
began in 1976 after a $120 million grant from Saudi King Faisal,
whose name the mosque bears. The unconventional design
by Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay was selected after an
international competition. It can accommodate over 300,000
worshipers at a time.

12. Empress Market


It is located in the busiest shopping spot of Karachi; Saddar. The
Empress Market was constructed between 1884 and 1889 and was
named to commemorate Queen Victoria, Empress of India. The site
of the market had historical significance as it was situated on the
grounds where a number of native sepoys were executed in a
ruthless fashion after the Indian Uprising of 1857 (The Mutiny of
1857). Accounts mention that the sepoys had their heads blown off
by cannonballs in an attempt to suppress any mutinous feelings
among the locals.

13. Badshahi masjid


The mosque is located west of Lahore Fort along the outskirts of
the Walled City of Lahore. Badshahi Mosque was commissioned by
Emperor Aurangzeb in 1671, with construction of the mosque lasting
for two years until 1673. The mosque is an important example
of Mughal architecture, with an exterior that is decorated with
carved red sandstone with marble inlay.

14. Mazar-e-Iqbal
It is situated in the Iqbal Park, Lahore in front of Badshahi Mosque.
After the demise of Iqbal in 1938, a committee was formed to design
the mausoleum. Its architecture is based on Afghan and Moorish
designs. Red bricks were brought in from Jaipur, India. The
committee raised all the funds from Iqbals friends, admirers, and
disciples. It was designed by Hyderabad Deccans chief architect,
Nawab Zain Yar Jang Bahadur and took thirteen years to completion.

15. Dillip Kumar Haveli, Peshawar


House of Dilip Kumar, Peshawar housed the Indian film actor Dilip
Kumar. Born in Peshawar, British India on 11 December 1922, Dilip
Kumar relocated to Mumbai in the late 1930s with family. It was
named as a Pakistani national heritage monument on 13 July 2014
by the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The house is located in
the famous Qissa Khawani Bazaar of Peshawar. The house is
planned to be converted into a museum and it is declared as a
protected monument under the Antiquity Act of 1997.
