I. Video Game Programming (Level 1)
This workshop explores some of the basic concepts of writing code through the process of
programming video games. In this workshop, you will create games using a game engine while
learning about programming language and the game production process. Along the way, you
will also explore math and science concepts at the core of modern video games which will help
in learning potential pathways into video game development.

Overall, this workshop involves:

Sharpening the Mind: Apply math and physics into games. Topics covered includes 2D
coordinate systems, points and vectors, linear algebra and basic Newtonian physics.

Diving Into Computer Science: Learn fundamentals of programming such as variables,

operators, expressions, flow control statements, loops, functions as well as basic debugging
techniques through developing simple video games

Creating Fully Playable Games: Learn about video game production. You can also download
the game engine and use it at home for practice after the workshop.

II. Video Game Programming (Level 2)

Level up your programming skills by learning new algorithms. This workshop takes game
development skills to the next level through deeper programming by learning how to
hand-code games using a variety of new techniques. It involves crucial computer science
concepts that allow programmers to write elegant code and apply this knowledge into practice
by coding playable game features.

Overall, this workshop involves:

Sharpening The Mind: Reinforce previously-learned math and physics knowledge while
learning new concepts.

Diving Into Computer Science: Learn algorithms to solve real world problems. Apply them
to add more depth and interaction to the games we have created.

Creating Hand-Coded Games: Go deeper into programming and create a video game from
start to end.

Prerequisites

Complete Video Game Programming Level 1

III. Stop Motion Animation

This workshop teaches the fundamentals of stop motion animation such as storyboarding,
composition and animation principles as well as how to design and create a character for stop
motion animation. Students will put their skills into practice by working in small teams to bring
their own stories to life by using traditional stop motion techniques.

Overall, this workshop involves:

Basic story structure for writing a story and storyboarding

Animation principles including squash and stretch, timing and staging

Creating a wire armature designed for stop motion animation

Designing and creating techniques for stop motion characters

Camera angles, shot sizes and composition

IV. Introduction to Digital Painting

Want to transit from traditional to digital painting? Interested to know more about digital
painting, production and how they are done? This workshop introduces and explores the
interface, tools and utility of Adobe Photoshop. Along the way, you will learn various
techniques in digital painting as well as photo editing and manipulation methods. You will also
learn and understand the workflow involved in digital painting. Some of the in-class activities
include painting materials, still life observation and portrait.

Overall, this workshop involves:

Learning Adobe Photoshop Interface, Tools and Functions

Exploring various techniques and methods for Digital Painting

Picking up photo editing and manipulation skills

Understanding the workflow in Digital Painting

V. Creating Comics and Manga

This workshop involves creating short comic strips as comics share the same fundamental
storytelling concepts, whether they are Japanese manga, western comics, traditional graphic
novels or web comics. Topics covered include storytelling strategies, character design and
development, page and panel layout, and effective use of text and dialogue. In addition, you
will learn basic character illustration techniques based on the anatomy of manga and cartoons,
which can directly translate to any other art style as well.

Overall, this workshop involves:

Character creation and development

Telling a story using comic panels

Conveying information through a balance of words and visuals

Fundamental art skills for drawing manga and comics

Process and techniques used in comic making

Grade 4 to 7
VI. Junior 2D Game Design
In Junior 2D Game Design, your student will learn that game design is much more than a
pastime it is a challenging and fulfilling field that rewards passion, creativity, and hard work.
In this workshop, your student will apply concepts from math, physics, art, and logic as they
create games in a variety of genres. Each student will have the opportunity to create a capstone
project by choosing from the different game genres presented during the first week.

Students will learn:

The game design process

Game design mechanics
Basic programming techniques

VII. Junior Programming Level 1

This workshop teaches the fundamentals of programming and how following good practices
results in solid code. Topics covered include variables, conditional statements, looping and
iteration, and arrays. Students use their knowledge of these core concepts to create a series of
simple computer games.

Students will learn:

Fundamental programming concepts

Algebraic expressions and mathematical operators
Programming for games

VIII. Junior Art and Animation Level 1

Digital production artists are responsible for producing the amazing visual experiences in
todays video games and animations. Success in this field requires artistic passion combined
with a solid grasp of both traditional and digital art skills. This workshop lets you explore the
world of production art through a variety of animation projects using non-digital and digital
media.

Students will learn:

Traditional fine arts skills

The art and animation production pipeline
Basic 2D computer animation, modeling, and texturing
Storytelling, dialogue, and writing techniques for animation

IX. Junior Art and Animation Level 2

Building on the knowledge and experience gained in Level 1 of this course, students are
introduced to the traditions of creating engaging character animations. Using both digital and
non-digital media, students explore human, animal, and inanimate object-based character
animation. Students will also consider issues of personality and story interaction as they
produce their animated shorts.

Students will learn:

Character design and animation production processes

Storytelling and emotional expression through body language
Figurative gesture drawing
Fundamentals of 2D computer character rigging and animation

Grade 1 to 3
X. Exploring Game Design
Games are fun to play, but theyre even more fun to make! In Exploring Game Design, we have
created a fun and supportive environment for your child to discover what it takes to create
tabletop games and video games. They will discover how game designers use math, science,
art, and sound to create engaging player experiences. At the end of the week, your child will
take home a board game and a video game of their own creation!

Your child will explore:

The game creation process

Fundamentals of logic and problem solving
How designers use game mechanics to create fun and challenging games
XI. Exploring Programming and Logic
You dont need to be able to write code to understand how computers make decisions. In this
workshop, your child will use fun activities and games to design and build their own decision
engines. The basics of machine thinking will be explored by looking at and building simple
combinations of logical elements.

Your child will explore:

Logic and decision-making

How computers think and interact with the world
