1. Describe the context in which these artifacts were collected and identify the
standard and competency the artifact represents?

The artifact was collected from a graduate class that focused on action research and
analysis. The articulated and demonstrated my understanding of using research sampling,
methodology and analysis to effectively evaluate program effectiveness in order to help
improve learning and practices.

2. What do they demonstrate to you about your learning and mastery of the
competencies which fall under this standard?

The artifact presented shows my ability to conduct research that addresses students needs
and implements reliable programs and strategies to improve learning outcomes and make
systematic changes. My research articulated my ability to successfully report current
scholarly knowledge concerning student achievement, but demonstrated a lack of
understanding of instructional approaches that are used within classroom settings.

My lack of teaching experience in traditional classroom settings, as well as in teaching

instruction, shows in my that I need to improve my ability in identifying quality reading
instructional materials and assessment tools to effectively assess learning. Having a solid
understanding and professional development within a specific content area is essential to
be an effective educator. Therefore, I will strive to improve my understanding of teaching
instructional approaches. It is important to recognize my ability to successfully conduct
inquiry to plan, organize, and implement quality comprehensive school counseling
programs.

3. What do these items of evidence tell you about your overall progress toward your
personal goals and your growth as a professional school counselor?
(read this all carefully and make sure its OK, it was kind of messy) The research
presented shows my desire to be a counselor that is not only competent at counseling and
evaluating students personal, social, and behavioral concerns, but also one that
understands instructional approaches that engage and improve student learning. If I have
a student that has an IEP that outlines behavioral and reading goals, as a counselor l will
want to be able to successfully identify and advocate developmentally appropriate
interventions for the students reading and behavior goals equally. In addition, my
research articulates my understanding of methodology that is utilized within educational
fields. It is important to me to have a great understanding of the research process and
creating a culture that values collaborative efforts and informed decision making that are
data driven.

4. What are your plans for additional growth and improvement in this area?

(same here, reread and make sure it reflects what you want to say) My plan for
additional growth is to actively research and participate in educational workshops that
focus on improving the way I analyze and approach learning. This may consist of
connecting with our local area education agency to learn about opportunities that can
enhance my own professional skills, and to learn about the current evidence-based
materials and strategies in place to improve students learning. In addition, I will closely
collaborate with specialized teachers to ask questions concerning classroom instruction
and establish a long-term mentorship.
