CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
In order to supplement the different teaching methods,
the teacher uses various media. such media is collectively known
as audio visual aids . Audio visual aids assists a teacher in
providing suitable learning experiences to learners , in the form of
audio and visual perceptions that would help them acquire new
information more effectively. such experiences would help them
to make impressions meaningful and long lasting and to develop
the skills .Audio visual education or multimedia based education
is instruction where particular attention is paid to the audio and
visual presentation of the material with the goal of improving
comprehension and retention .Audio visual education, used
supplementary teaching aids such as recordings , transcripts and
tapes , motion pictures , video tapes ,radio and television and
computers to improve learning .Audio visual education
,educational instruction by means of materials that use the
senses of sight and hearing to stimulate and enrich learning
experiences.
Need and significance

The use of audio visual aids in teaching has increased


in the past few years due to technological advancement
technology blessed the teachers , administrators and student
community with multimedia presentations which increases
interest in the classrooms .When teachers use learning aids ,
students show interest and get more stimulate.

The use of audio visual aids in classroom teaching


stimulates interest in pupils. This leads to the whole hearted
attention on the part of learner, which ultimately develop a
linking for subject. Audio visual aids bring the past into the
present and cover the records of years and even centuries in to a
short period of minutes. It breaks the monotony of school routine
and are always welcomed by pupils as a happy change in the
class room. When audio visual aids are employed the response of
the class is always better . They make the teaching matter lively
and interesting .It helps to children to observe things in their most
natural settings.

Statement of the study


The present study is entitled as A STUDY ON THE
EFFECTIVENESS OF AUDIO VISUAL AIDS IN SOCIAL
SCIENCE

Objectives of the study


To find out the effectiveness of audio visual aids
in social science

Scope and limitation

The present study has a wide scope in the


education system. The aim of using aids should be to
make learning more interesting and effective. So it should
be to make learning more interesting and effective. So it
should be considered as a substitute for teaching.
Principles of audio visual aids for effective teaching to
take place a good method must be adopted by the
teacher. The teacher is always free to choose effective
audio visual aids in the classroom. Of course there are
also certain principles of audio visual aids teach in
methodology.AVS are classified in to projected aids , non-
projected aids and activity aids. The major projected aids
that could be used in teaching of social science are OHP,
slide projector , films and film projector, television etc
Use of AV AIDS make interest and attractive in
classrooms. The AV aids always helps in competing the
triangular process such as motivation clarification and
stimulation. It provides significant gains in informal
learning, retention, recall, imagination, personal growth
and development.
The major limitation of the present study are
lack of proper time. The present study is limited to only
one area. The response of the students of only one school
was used for the present study.

4. Sample used for the study
Sample used for the study is twenty students of
standard IX in K I T E H S.KAYAMKULAM.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

The investigator has conducted a survey in A


study on the effectiveness of Audio visual Aids in social
Science and well. prepared questions was distributed
comprising of 15 questions to 20 students of 9 th standard
In K.I.T. English High School, Kayamkulam. The investigator has
made the following analysis on the basis of data collected.

From the above analysis understood that, To the


question do you like the use of audio visual aid for teaching 85%
have responded positively and 15 % only negatively. To the
question can you see the historical events through the use of
projector, 100% have positively responded .100%of students
opined that it can give reality and vividness to learning situation.

To the question it can provide variety of methods in


teaching learning 90% of students have responded positively.
90% of students are opined that audio visual learning is more
easier for them. 100% of students opinioned that this method
gives the reality and vividness to learning situation. 90% students
opined that they full natural feelings through this method. 75% of
students positively responded the question this method can give
clarity to learning. Totally the investigator understand that
majority of students opined that use of audio visual aids in
teaching and learning very interesting and attractive.

CHAPTER: 4

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSION

Audio visual aid is the best tool for making teaching


effective and the best dissemination of knowledge. Audio visual
material can be included tape recorder, radio, movie, projector
method etc .They are very useful for teaching process, they are
facilitators for making an explanation of topic that may involve
difficult term, in to an easy understanding. They are the great
tools to catch audience attention and help them to get involve in
to the learning process without problem .They help to present the
material in an attractive way ,so that is more meaningful for
everyone to process subject. We are living today in rich and
sophisticated audio visual environment .As teachers; we must
face to the fact that this radically changes our pupils
expectations.
