I would like to thank the PDGs, Past Presidents, Rotarians

Club of Muar generally and to me personally in order to make
good our promise in Rotary to improve the community around
us and to improve ourselves as better people.

Last but not least, I would like to thank our DG Philip

Projects for Rotary year 2015-2016:

1. Pallative Care Unit:

Rotary Club of Muar is in the process of setting up a

Palliative Care Unit in Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah
Muar in the next 6 months to 1 year.

We have already discussed with Hospital Muar and they

are keen in the project. It will be joint venture where we
provide the financing and know how while the hospital
provides the location and staffing.

20
We organized a trip to Johor Bahru to visit the Palliative
Association of Johor Bahru and the Palliative Care Unit of
Hospital Sultan Ismail to help us understand more the
about setting up a Palliative Care Unit. A team from
Hospital Muar joined us too in the visit.

We plan to raise at least RM300,000 through charity

dinner, golf tournament and also Global Grant.

This will be our biggest project ever for Rotary Club of

Muar.

2. School Uniforms:

Rotary Club of Muar has been donating uniforms for school

children who are either orphans or from very poor families.
We usually donate 2 pairs of uniform each (which includes
2 set of uniform and a pair of shoes) to the students.

This is a very good project as we give hope and encourage

these students to study harder.

Last year we joined with the Interact Clubs of Muar to

donate 40 school uniforms.

We plan to continue to donate uniform to the needy

students at the end every year school year.

3. Give a Helping Hand:

Rotary Club of Muar started a new project called Give a

Helping Hand in 2013. The idea is to change the life of an
unfortunate person or family every month by helping them
to reduce or solve their problem.

The main priority of these projects is aspects of education

for the young of all ages.

All Rotarians are encouraged to propose recipient families

after a fact-finding visit to their home. After each project,

21
we will have a fellowship meal with the family at their
home.

So far, we have helped 10 families and 1 Children's Home

since the projects started at October 2013. We have
helped out by providing groceries, mattresses, furniture,
bed sheets, fridge to start a rojak stall, school bags, tuition
fees, new clothes, books, toiletries etc.

This monthly project encourages all Rotarians to be

participative and do their part in proposing recipients,
fact-finding and interaction. Rotarians will see themselves
how fortunate they actually are and know the true
meaning of service and giving in Rotary. Direct impact for
all involved.

4. Environmental Project:

Rotary Club of Muar for the past few years has planted few
thousand trees in Muar District.

We are planning to continue this project this Rotary year

also. We plan to plant around 200 trees with the help of
the District Office and Majlis Perbandaran Muar (Municipal
Council).

The purpose of this environmental project is to create a

greener environment and also to educate the public on the
importance of trees in preserving and maintaining a
balanced environment, in line with the theme, Bandar
Muar, Bandar Hijau, which simply means, Keep Muar
Green.

5. Medical Camp Health, Dental and Eye Screening:

Rotary Club of Muar has been organising medical camps

for as long as we can remember. We have incorporated
health, dental and eye screening during our medical
camp.

22
We get the help of local health department, dental
department, eye department and local town council to
make the programme a success.

We also tap other Rotary clubs in the district like Rotary

Club of Pasir Gudang who helps us with their expertise to
conduct eye screening.

the next couple of months to help students improve their
English and also to improve spoken language among the
adults.

In todays global world, the importance of English cannot

be denied and ignored since English is the most common
language spoken everywhere. Proficiency in English is
considered essential for personal and professional
development of a person. In Malaysia, it has occupied an
important role. In every sphere of life whether social,
political, academic, cultural, economic, scientific and
technological development it holds significant value.
English language helps us in bringing closer to the rest of
the world. Without it, an individual would become an
isolated island in the ocean.
