Take Her Life and Let It Be Hendon
notes
On this second Sunday in Lent, another candle is
extinguished as, gradually and symbolically, the light dims
with each passing week as we the approach the death
of the Savior. We have hung the robe on the cross today.
After beating Christ, the soldiers put a robe on Him,
along with a crown of thorns, gave Him a staff, then spit
on Him and mocked Him as King of the Jews. In light of
the circumstances, the mockery was particularly vicious.
After beating Him on the head again and again, they led
Him out to crucify Him. In a world which is enamored with
the virtual, the items on the cross proclaim loudly and
clearly, that we are dealing with reality. The crucifixion
of Jesus Christ was not a fanciful or imaginary story, but
an authentic historical event which continues to have
an impact on the world. Rest assured, the day is coming
when every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and
under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father and the
crown He wears will not be a crown of thorns but that
of the King of kings and the Lord of lords. We await that
great day!
