This is merely a rough guideline to do the report including the important facts that LJMU

requires Please note that this guideline do not restrict you to a framework, obviously you
can add any additional important things you wish, into the report.
Read the assignment 1& 2 carefully before writing the reports. Generally for all the tests,
discuss about the limitations as well.

1. Schmit Hammer Test:

Readings were taken on a wall and column. Conversion charts are attached along with this.
Also on the second day, a cube was tested with the Schmit hammer and the Compressive testing
was done using Compression Testing Machine, for the same cube.
Discussion: This should be done separately for the two stages of the practical.
Cube: Compare the Rebound value of cube and the crushed strength of cube while including
critical appraisal on the methodology adapted. Always use Literature related to Schmit hammer
testing to discuss these facts. You can discuss more relevant facts other than the specified
things here.
Common Guidelines: In the discussion they have to discuss the practicality difference. The
students should possess the idea on the calibration process as well. Also, its good to include the
reasons for the corner value deviations of the cubes (i.e; due to low compactions in the corners
when casting). Always discuss critically on the methodology adapted. You can discuss more
relevant facts other than the specified things here.

You have to demonstrate the understanding on the location selection for testing of the structure.
Give a brief outline on the testing procedure adapted with important details (Selection of points,
direction of use, number of points, etc.). Also, the students have to discuss the facts with other
results (Moisture content, carbonation etc.). And note that the result cannot be discussed in
isolation. Also consider mainly on the environmental facts, the exposure levels depending on the
location of the structure and also the exposure of the testing area. You can discuss more
relevant facts other than the specified things here. Given below is an extractions from the
Manual.
2. Cover Meter
Given below are some extractions from the Cover meter Manual.

Discuss the limitations and the possible errors that might cause the rebar diameter and the cover
depth values.
You can discuss more relevant facts other than the specified things here.

3. Half-Cell Potential
Provide a map using the resulted values choosing an appropriate range. As a guideline below
given is the default range used in the ProVista Software which is used to Map the Half-cell values.
Herewith attached is a supportive document for the half-cell potential test. Discuss the results
according to the potential for corrosion while critically appraising the methodology adopted. And
definitely you can discuss more relevant facts other than the specified things here.
Below are some extraction from the Manual of the Half- Cell Potential testing instrument. The
understanding on these will be important for the Site Investigation as well.

You have to demonstrate the understanding on the location selection for testing of the structure.
The batch will be divided into two and will conduct the experiments separately on one structure.
And the groups will have to exchange the results in order to critically discuss about the structure.
Give a brief outline on the testing procedure adapted with important details (Selection of points,

location of the structure and also the exposure of the testing area. You can discuss more
relevant facts other than the specified things here.

4. Chloride Test
Lab Results: You can discuss the effects considering if R/f is in the concrete. Better to discuss Cl
with the permeability of the concrete, and other relevant experiment results. You should develop
a Chloride profile with depth from the results obtained. Also critically discuss the results & the
methodology adapted. You can discuss more relevant facts other than the specified things
here.

Develop a carbonation profile with depth. You can discuss the effects considering if R/f is in
the concrete. Better to discuss with the permeability of the concrete, and other relevant
experiment results. Also critically discuss the results & the methodology adapted. You can

6. Moisture Content: Hygrometer test

Two holes were drilled into the concrete, left to stand for 72 hours to allow the air in the hole to achieve equilibrium and
a probe then placed into the hole to measure the relative humidity. The two basic types of meter (Hygrometer
& Speedy moisture) play totally different roles, demonstrate the knowledge in that as well. You
can discuss more relevant facts other than the specified things here.

Extractions from the manual with the Moisture content conversion charts for the hygropin test is
given below.

7. Moisture Content: Speedy Moisture
The conversion chart is given below.

Develop a Moisture Content profile with depth. Also compare the values got from Hygropin test.
Always use Literature related to moisture content testing to discuss these facts. You can discuss
