Database Assignment
1. Searching for Britten/Sacher/Rostropovich brought forth a couple of interesting
looking abstracts for dissertations, but did not leave open any doors for their retrieval. I hope
to retrieve them.
2. I expanded my search to include other compositions as necessary. This led to inclusion
of journal articles and festschriften materials. The process of transcribing the materials in to
the UVic Find This page was ridiculous as it introduced rampant errors into the search
form

While dealing solely with Berios Les Mots, Carones paper provides a model for
analysis potentially suitable to all works in the collection, combining insights into the pre
compositional process with extensive though standard structural and motivic analysis.
Also, rather efficient in its delivery at only 4 pages

12 homages.

 These 2 complementary articles provide a succinct guide to the mature and late periods
of Lutoslawski's career. They outline many of his compositional practices around the time
of the Sacher Variation and examine the continuing relationship between composer
and patron.

4. Other Database searches - were in the whole not as fruitful as RILM, unsurprisingly. The
Music Index contained many results but was hampered by a poor search algorithm which could
not filter results well. The few useful results were performance reviews and duplicates of articles
found in RILM. On the other hand it looked nice. RIPM contained little pertinent material.
