Ed TPA Reflective Commentary

SLO 3.1 Candidates will create effective learning environments and deliver
meaningful learning experiences which have an emphasis on developing a deep
understanding of content knowledge.
Disposition:
The candidate is committed to continuous learning and engages in professional
discourse about subject matter knowledge and childrens learning of the discipline.
Relevance for TPE and edTPA:
In order to demonstrate my understanding of TPE 3.6 Use and adapt resources,
standards-aligned instructional materials, and a range of technology, including
assistive technology, to facilitate students' equitable access to the curriculum, I
created an instructional Web project that gives students and teachers resources
that will benefit them as they study visual and performing arts and Physical
Education. This project also is a reflection of my understanding of TPE 4.8 Use
digital tools and learning technologies across learning environments as appropriate
to create new content and provide personalized and integrated technology-rich
lessons to engage students in learning, promote digital literacy, and offer students
multiple means to demonstrate their learning. This shows my ability to complete
the edTPA by demonstrating my ability to plan lessons according to standards,
facilitate literacy development in all disciplines, and assess students current levels
and progress.
TPE/Standards links to Content Learning and ELD Instruction
VAPA and PE Content: This resource project I have created demonstrates my ability
to use content standards for Visual and Performing Arts and Physical Education to
construct effective and engaging lessons. The lesson plans and resources I have
provided can be useful for teachers in their curriculum for VAPA and P.E. in the
classroom. This project is an example of how to be creative in providing meaningful
learning experiences for students which will help them retain the information.
ELD: Through this project I was able to write lesson plans that correlate with ELD
and structure content for the needs of the students. Within each lesson there is
content specific vocabulary providing opportunities for English Language
development.
Link to Theory
Theory 1: This instructional Web resource project includes lessons based on direct
instruction and on constructivist theory. The lesson objectives were behavioral type
objectives that included four parts: Audience, Behavior, Condition and Degree.
Theory/Principle 2: In this Web project the VAPA lesson involves some analysis and
synthesis (Blooms Taxonomy) in creating the picture of how Christmas is celebrated
in another culture. The P.E. lesson involves direct instruction which makes it fall
somewhere between the knowledge and comprehension levels on Blooms
Taxonomy. The assessment types were a structured observation for P.E. using a
checklist and a portfolio for art in which the finished product will be placed into.

Professional Actions for Growth

The next action to take would be to use the skill sets that I have developed to
create this project and produce meaningful learning experiences for my future
students. These skills will also help me contribute to the body of knowledge in the
educational field. By participating in professional learning communities I will share
and learn new skills in which to build upon.
