Nepal Hub
Every volunteer receives education on the issue of Human Trafficking in Nepal
and learns to make momos too!
Objectives:
As we address the Sustainable Development Goal Number 5, Gender Equity, our hub objectives strive to develop the
skills of women in the community in order to improve their potential to generate income or to become more
self-sufficient.

Summary
SASANE is an organisation which supports survivors of Human Trafficking and importantly, aims to
educate on the issues of trafficking. We have recently introduced SASANE's Sisterhood of Survivors
programme to all new volunteers. This workshop session is run by survivors of trafficking. By attending
these sessions our volunteers not only learn new skills and information but they also provide an
opportunity for the women to develop confidence in hospitality, conversation and presentation skills.

Report
The first part of the afternoon is a momo cooking class where our volunteers get
hands-on with the chopping and assembling techniques of momos. It's quite an art
and we have seen some "interesting" creations by our volunteers. It's one of those
skills where practice and more practice will eventually make perfect.

Following the momo session, our volunteers take their seats at the dining table
and are served a traditional Nepali lunch. This allows the women to practice their
hospitality skills as they serve the lunch they have prepared. It's a delicious lunch
and another aspect of our volunteers experiencing the food culture in Nepal.

The session then continues with a presentation about the issues of trafficking in Nepal. It is presented by one of the
SASANE team. It provides a wealth of information for our volunteers, the presentation is quite confronting but very
informative. The presentation also talks about the programmes that SASANE have in place to support survivors of
trafficking including paralegal training. They also talk about their in-school education programme. The presentation
allows one of the SASANE team to further develop her presentation skills as she goes through the presentation with us.

To finish the afternoon, tea and coffee is served as well as a chance to eat the
momos we prepared earlier. Yet another opportunity for the women to fine tune
their serving and hospitality skills.

Further to this programme, we have also met with the Sisterhood of Survivors
group to discover their educational needs. Going forward, our Women's
Empowerment volunteers will be working with the women to help develop skills in
conversational English, report writing submission writing, hospitality, First Aid and
computer literacy, just to name a few.

We are pleased to be able to enter this partnership and provide support for this wonderful Nepali programme which was
set up with the support of other like-minded organisations. If we are to make change in the world, partnerships are so
important. "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." Our relationship with SASANE means we provide a
regular audience for women aiming to develop their skills and confidence and it means each of our volunteers is educated
on the issues of trafficking in Nepal.
