1. Location: Soldiers & Sailors museum

c. Summary: The Soldiers & Sailors museum has many artifacts
that have been donated to them that range from the Civil War
through today. The museum is the nations only military land
mark that is dedicated to honoring the men and women of all
branches of service, from all generations and conflicts. This
would be great for students to see when learning about the
different branches of our service or even learning about some of
the conflicts. While at the museum you could also watch a show
since they put on a variety of performances in their auditorium.

c. Summary: Fort Pitt Museum is a museum that tells the story of
Western PAs essential role in the French and Indian War, the
American Revolution and the birthplace of Pittsburgh. You can
bring students here to tour when learning about the French and
Indian War, the American Revolution or even if you are studying
the history of Pittsburgh itself.

3. Location: Fort Ligonier Museum

c. Summary: Fort Ligonier is in the Laurel Highlands and has world-
class exhibits and extensive archaeological collections. You can
explore the full scale restored fort and as well as see
reenactments. This is an amazing local resource for our area. As
you study the French and Indian War or local history you can visit
this British Fort that is so close to home.

4. Location: Old Economy Village

c. Summary: This settlement in Beaver County was built by the
Harmony Society in 1824. These people believed in a simple
peaceful life. Now on this site you can explore how they lived by
having students participate in their home life activities,
community life as well as tour their Natural History Museum.

5. Location: Fort Bedford Museum
a. Address: 110 Fort Bedford Drive, Bedford, PA 15522

c. Summary: The museum has large scale model of the original fort.
The museum also houses Native American artifacts that were
found in the region, thousands of household items dating back
hundreds of years. By visiting this location students can hear the
history of the Fort by an expert as well as see original items that
were used in the fort.

6. Location: Compass Inn Museum

c. Summary: The in tells the story of transportation and everyday
life in the early 1800s.The Inn is fully restored and furnished with
period pieces and visitors can tour 7 rooms as well as the barn,
the blacksmith shop and the cookhouse. Students will get a feel
of what life was really like in the early 1800s. They seem to really
engage visitors on a tour as they deliver history with a smile. I
believe that students would have a lot of fun on this tour while
learning in a museum that is so close to home.

7. Location: Bushy Run Battlefield

c. Summary: This landmark is a major victory site for the British
during the Pontiacs Rebellion. While on tours students can see
the battlefield and here from reenactors. The site also has
reenactment days from the war where many locals dress up and
participate in.
8. Location: Kentuck Knob
a. Address: 723 KEntuck Road, Chalk hill, PA 15421

c. Summary: This house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright was
completed in 1956 and took two years to build. This was the last
house that the famous architect build. This house was built for
the Hagan Family who were owners of a large dairy company.
Students can learn about the building of the house as the also
learn about Mr. Wright.

9. Location: Flight 93 Memorial

c. Summary: When visiting the site students can explore the crash
site of flight 93 that was part of one of the planes that went
down during 9/11. This site is close to home and gives students a
look at what happened on that day. If a trip to the sight cannot
be done you can have someone from the center come and talk to
your school. When I was in high school every year on 9/11 we
had someone come to our school and talk about the events of
that day and how it effected our community directly. We also had
parents who were involved come and talk to us. These parents
were in New York when it happened, policemen, firefighters and
more.

10. Location: Latrobe Area Historical Society

c. Summary: The Latrobe Area Historical Society has many books
and bound manuscripts pertaining to the history of Latrobe,
Westmoreland County and the Surrounding areas. They also have
many deeds and maps dating back to the 1970s. I picked this as
one of my local resources because when I was in elementary
school we went to visit them to learn about the history of
Latrobe. They showed us some of these maps and told us about
the history of our home town. You could also have someone from
the Historical Society come to you instead of visiting them.
