ES1103 Week 6_Tutorial 1_Oral Presentation Procedure_DT

Presentation of essay outlines and sources

Objectives
When you have finished this section, you will be able to:
explain the choice of topic and sources
discuss the interpretation of the essay
listen critically
evaluate and reflect on own performance

Activity
Your tutor will split the class into 2 groups. The duration of each presentation should be 15 minutes
at the most: 10 minutes for actual presentation and 5 minutes for questions and answers.
You will take turns to present. While your peers are presenting, use Table 1 to take notes and
prepare to ask questions/critique their outlines.

After the presentation, you can use Table 2 to reflect on your performance and start planning to
write the first draft of your essay.

Here are some guiding questions to help you with the critique:
1. Is the thesis clear and does it answer the prompt fully?
2. Are the different sections relevant and related to the thesis (i.e. do they support the thesis
by expanding on it with explanations, development and justifications)?
3. Is the evidence presented convincing (what else could have more impact)?
4. Are the sources helpful/reliable?
5. Is it clear why the current solutions are not effective?
6. Are the new solutions feasible?
7. Are the new solutions evaluated? Are any limitations provided?
