SUMMATIVE COMMENTS BY SITE COORDINATOR:
Xunyu met the administrative requirements of her placement, attending all required lessons, professional development sessions as
well as professional development days. The comments made by her mentor teachers indicate that she has some areas for
development, not unusual in a pre-service teacher, but also a number of strengths. She has demonstrated a willingness to reflect
and improve her practice by implementing advice provided by her mentors, this will serve her well in the future. We wish her all the
best.

I showed my good mastery of content knowledge and creatively embedded the relevant life examples into my teaching. I designed
several simple science experiments and activities that facilitated students understanding of complex and abstract scientific
concepts. I applied a sense of humour to teaching, which made the content more understandable.
I prepared well all teaching materials, equipment, worksheets in advance every lesson. I presented my lesson well and monitored
students while they were doing hands-on activities and experiments in case of any potential hazard and unexpected situation.
I cared about students well-being and accommodated their different and special needs in my teaching plans in order to help
students succeed. I am good at giving constructive and encouraging feedback and providing corresponding assistance and tutorial
to students in need.
I actively engaged in staff activities and meetings and built up a good relationship with other staffs.

Xunyu has good scientific knowledge and has been able to creatively deliver content to students. Her selection of resources has
improved and she has used current resources to develop her own, put her own spin on it, so that they are more engaging. Xunyu
attempted a variety of delivery of methods, including notes from the board, short videos, discussion and debate as well as model
labelling.
Xunyu needs to develop her understanding of student ability levels and how students develop cognition of ideas. She needs to work
on sequencing ideas, so that students can construct their understanding. Giving students more time to delve deeper into concepts
she tended to rush. Her style of questioning began to develop, but she needs to work on how to clarify ideas using student
responses. In regards to differentiation for below standard students, her accommodation occurred when instructed, something she
needs to pay more attention to in next experience.
Xunyu has shown that she can competently extract content from the Australian Curriculum. She has assessed 2 tasks and used
appropriate grading for the school and Australian Curriculum. She has entered the information using the schools database
programs.
Xunyu scientific language (oral and board work) still needs development. Her prepared documents were suitable. Xunyu improved
student numeracy skills through data analysis and IT skills by teaching students the uses of excel.
Xunyu is developing her understanding of what students are able to do and showed reasonable lesson objectives through well
thought out lesson plans. Though these objectives were often not clear to students. Lesson plans where detailed and showed a
good variety of tasks. Xunyu attempted to use a variety of strategies and resources as previously stated. She produced accurate
PowerPoint slide shows and accessed appropriate video resources to enhance the delivery of key ideas.
Communication in written form was suitable. Much work needs to occur in regards to classroom presence and verbal
communication. Therefore, management of the classroom is at the beginning stages, Xunyu needs to develop some strategies in
managing student engagement levels and disruptive behaviour. She is considerate about student safety and is supportive of student
well-being she cares about students. Currently Xunyu has communicated with parents via email and the use of assignment
manager to provide assessment feedback.
Xunyu has shown excellent use of reflective practices, by providing me a reflection document after each lesson, when receiving
feedback about her teaching. She has then followed up, by demonstrating new strategies in the next lesson.
Xunyu has shown very good development in regards to assessment. She carefully analysed her students experiment reports and
gave encouraging feedback. She needs to consider students abilities and accommodations we need to make for students with lower
abilities. Xunyu sort out feedback about her assessment skills and made consistent and appropriate judgements of student
achievement levels using AC achievement standards.
Xunyu also connected herself with the year 12 chemistry class and teacher. She attended all of the lessons for observational
purposes and assisted in two experiments.
Xunyu is personable and friendly, she can communicate with staff and students competently.
