East High, West High, & Expo High

October 2016

8:00-8:30 Edgenuity Review (Room 120 C)

Whats working so far?
Rigor is much better in comparison to PLATO
Those struggling with reading like the option to have it read aloud to them
Being assessed over what the students actually learn
Information is chunked better
Once students reach the 15%-20% range, their pace is quickening
Easy to customize individual courses based on student needs
What are some challenges?
Rigor is also creating some barriers to earning credits as quickly - significantly
behind in progress/not meeting target completion
Students are stressed regarding their progress - afraid they wont earn enough to
graduate
Students with an IEP or 504 Plan - what will we do about creating assisted
notes?
Helpful hints to share?
Individually go over quizzes with students who have been through so many
retakes - double check questions 2, 4, 5, and 10 for example
Free movement - dont use Next Activity button or it will move them all over
If you have questions you dont like, email those in to Edgenuity and they will get
back to you and possibly remove them
Kids can highlight test/quiz questions and have them read aloud
Reports
Search student and check out progress and session log
Questions
Are we still doing the 100 Days rule? - based on eligibility?
Are tests the only thing students need to get 70% on?
Can we get E2020 people to come back and go over some more helpful tips with
us since we know the program better at this time?

8:30-10:00 Content Groups

Review courses for proper alignment and need to know material
Develop supplemental materials to assist hard sections/tests

120 A- Social Studies

120 B- Math
120 C- English
120 L - Science
Social Studies
Made several changes to align with district Social Studies Curriculum. Added benefit of streamlining the
courses.

US Hist A Moved Great Depression to World War II unit to beginning of US B. U.S. B begins with
the Roaring 20s and this is the Unit that most closely aligns.

US Hist B Move America in the Modern World unit to beginning of Contemporary Affairs. Current
US B students will be exempted from the New 1st Unit as they have already passed this point (or should).
A new class named WCSD Contemporary Affairs IC Spring 2017 has been added to start next
semester.

CA Remove The Interwar Years and Communism and the Cold War Units and Added America in
the Modern World as the 2nd Unit. Because of the structure of the course these changes should not take
effect until next semester. A new class named WCSD Contemporary Affairs IC Spring 2017 has been
added to start next semester. Contemporary Affairs deals with issues from the Regan Era on, this is why
the US unit was added. The redundancy of the two removed units is not only unnecessary, but it slows
progress down.

World History A Took out Writers Workshop in Ancient Greece and Rome Unit and Church
Authority in Europe in the Medieval Europe Unit. Literacy should be infused and it is in several lessons.
A 3 hour Writers Workshop takes too much time and they cover this same concept in Government.
Church Authority in Europe is also addressed in the Reformation section of World B.

World History B Took out World War I Begins, A new kind of war and World War I Ends out of
Imperialism and the Great War Unit. This is covered in US A.

Economics Took out The Global Economy Unit. This is a unit that is more nice to know from our
curriculum, so it was taken out to streamline.

Gov Took out Public Policy Unit. This is another topic that gets covered in brief in the gen. ed.
Classroom.

Science
One big thing we have been discussing is that Quizzes are actually also the pretests. It's marked as the
first attempt quiz in the reports. So kids might be taking theses at home??? (expo is the only place that
told kids they could take quizzes at home, East for sure has said no quizzes at home). So we were
thinking they should either be allowed to exempt with pretests OR be allowed to do quizzes at home, not
both or they may be exempting out of units at home.

There is an edit options button that can lock all quizzes until the teacher unlocks it for the student. So that
might help.

Science has student sign off sheets ready to go.

Tough units Phy Sci B- Atomic Theory
Bio A-Cycles of Matter

Have found that these are longer videos and kids are missing the info at the end, or just not paying
attention, so far.

Only content removed is Polymers from Phy B

We discussed edgenuity navigation, free movement and assigning courses to self.

English
Questions/Comments:
Unanimous: need more time to collaborate in English area
Expo needs clarification on expectations for what kids could do at home
Students cant take topic tests or cum exams BUT they can take quizzes at home (is there
a way for Rachael to lock up quizzes for all classes?)
A few are ok with kids taking quizzes at home.
Reviewing what sites to lock and what sites to keep unblocked for Crosstec
Is there a way to give unlimited time for some tests
Expo: videos not showing- need students to be open for Chrome

Looked at 12 A and 12 B. made some changes that fit the curriculum.
