relationship in the future. In the end, through the active participation of the

Transfer Goals:

Know the importance of loving and taking good care of oneself for a better
and more efficient relationship in the future.
(Implicitly) Discover the connection between philosophy and psychology as
related fields.
Essential Questions:

What is the care of self in the thought of Michel Foucalt?

How does the care of self affect my relationships?

Knowledge:

Concept of Self of Carl Rogers

Concept of Care of Self of Michel Foucault
Concept of Love of Plato

Skills:

I can identify means by which I can show the care of self.

I can discover the connection between the concepts of self, care of self, and
love.
I can critically examine the implication of a healthy personal growth to an
enhanced relationship.
Transfer Task:
1. Examine your past finished relationships. How have you been uncaring for
yourself and over-focused on your beloved?
2. How did this being uncaring affect your relationship? Yourself?
3. Which of the principles just presented can help you recover from the negative
effects of being uncaring for yourself? Why? How can it help?
4. Think of a resolution for caring for the self which you can do in your daily life.
On a post-it, write a hugot line to express this. Stick this post it on any place
or thing which you can see often to remind you of your resolution.
HOOK: MAHAL KO O MAHAL AKO? (20 mins, 9:00-9:20 am)
PRAYER, MOMENT OF MINDFULNESS
MOTIVATION (5 mins): The speaker poses the question: Mahal ko o mahal ako? He
asks the participants to choose one and why. TPS (30 secs think time, 1 min sharing,
then, plenary).
HOOK (2 mins): We often choose to love somebody without first inspecting ourselves:
Do I love myself enough so that I can love somebody else as he/she deserves? This
short philosophical symposium will deal with this question.

Immediate smooth transition to Session 1

SESSION 1: MAHAL KO, MAHAL AKO, O AKO MUNA? THE CARE OF SELF (70
mins, 9:20-10:30 am)
MOTIVATION: The Pig Personality Test.
Materials: Paper and Pen/Pencil
Procedure: The speaker asks the participants to draw any pig which will be
interpreted as follows:
1) If the pig is drawn towards the top of the paper you are perceived as a
positive and optimistic person by others.
2) If the pig is drawn towards the middle of the page you are perceived as a
realist.
3) If the pig is drawn towards the bottom of the page, you are perceived as a
pessimistic person and have the tendency to behave negatively under
pressure.
4) If the pig is facing to the left, you believe in tradition, are friendly and
remember dates and birthdays.
5) If the pig is facing forward (towards you) you are a direct person; neither
fear nor avoid discussion and enjoy stirring the pot to promote change.
6) If the pig is facing to the right you are innovative, creative and active; you
have a poor memory of dates and birthdays.
7) If the pig is drawn with many details you see yourself as analytical and
cautious. Others must work hard to earn your trust and to keep it.
8) If the pig is drawn with few details you are a risk taker; wear your emotions
on your sleeve and care little for the details in life.
9) If the pig is drawn with (four) 4 legs showing you are secure, stick to your
beliefs and have been told at least once in your life that you are stubborn.
10) If the pig is drawn with less than 4 legs showing you are living through a
period of major change in your life.
11) The larger the pigs ears you have drawn, the better listener you are.
12) And last but not leastthe longer the pigs tail that you have drawn
(including loops) the more satisfied you are with the quality of your
personal relationships.

Please note, however, that this is not a valid psychological test. Any similarity
between somebodys personality and the interpretation of the drawing might be
coincidental.
Hook: Did the test bring to surface something you do not know about yourself, but
is confirmed to be part of your personality? Did it affirm what you have already
known about yourself? Or you still know yourself better than what a simple test can
show? BUT THE BOTTOMLINE IS How well do you know yourself? Because if you
know yourself well, it is only then that you can truly love it and care for it! As
Thomas Aquinas said, Nothing is loved unless known. Thus we confirm the ancient
saying, Nosce te ipsumKnow yourself.
