Unit Title: Mondrian Primary Color Shapes

Unit Big Idea: Primary Colors

Step 1: Teacher and students talk about what they will learn and do

What is a line?
What are primary colors?
What is the difference between Organic and Geometric?

Students will create a primary color collage/drawing using all 3 primary colors and at least
6 different kind of lines or shapes.

Students will have a collage that has 6 different kinds of lines/shapes created
out of black strips of paper that are glued down.
Students will have used all 3 primary colors and can identify them.

Step 3: Get the students interested (Build Commitment and Engagement)


Week 1
Show students the Mondrian PPT. Have students identify colors and lines that they
know.
Have students create different kinds of lines with their bodies by standing up and
moving. Can they join a friend and become a thick line? How can they use their
bodies to form a diagonal line?
Demonstrate how to cut and glue lines and how to create shapes on paper.
Week 2
Demonstrate how to fill the space of the composition using primary colors.

Step 4: Give students new information (Teacher Presentation Strategies)


Teacher will introduce students to artist Piet Mondrian thru the PPT.
Teacher will draw different kinds of lines on the board and label them.
Students will watch teacher demonstrate the steps of the lesson.
