Argument Paper
Vaccinations should be a requirement not an option. Vaccines help protect you from
preventable diseases. It is becoming a trend to not get vaccinated. Today I am here to tell you why
you should be vaccinated and why vaccinations should be required. If less and less people get
Vaccines help you from getting life threatening diseases. In fact vaccines have completely
eradicated Polio, Smallpox, and Hookworm just to name a few(Manhon 3).The trend of not
getting vaccinated is going to hurt society in the long run. If society continues this trend then
Vaccines help prevent the population from spreading diseases. If vaccines were not used
then just a few cases could turn into hundreds in the blink of an eye(Blaine 2). This could be a
real problem for society. For example a disease as simple as the Chickenpox could turn into a
Vaccines help protect members of the population who are medically unable to be
vaccinated. For example sometimes a persons immune system is too weak to handle a vaccine.
If everyone who is able to be vaccinated got the vaccine then this person would be protected
from the disease. (Scott 1) This rule also applies to those who are allergic to the vaccine.

There are many counterclaims to my argument. One of them being that vaccines can lead
to Autism. Though all research shows that there is no direct link between vaccinations and
Autism.
Another counterclaim for my argument is vaccines can cause mental disorders. All
research once again shows that there is no link between mental illness and vaccinations.
A rebuttal for these counterclaims is there is no proof of mental illness caused from
vaccinations. This is only a myth. Mental illness has not a single connection to vaccinations.
(Gish 3) It is only a coincidence if you become diagnosed with mental illness after receiving a
vaccination.
Vaccination should be required not a choice. Vaccinations can help protect the population
from spreadable diseases.(Weimer 4 ) They can also protect those who are unable to receive the
vaccine. Will you make the change and get vaccinated today?
