Established and fostered classroom community, set classroom expectations and learning norms, fostered strong one-
on-one relationships with 122 students from rural and urban White, Latino, and African American backgrounds.
Developed small group and whole class dialogue, differentiation, and behavior management skills in 9 th, 12th, and
mixed grade courses.
Applied evidence-based practices to engage struggling readers and writers in developing comprehension,
organization, and analysis skills.
Developed strategies for providing meaningful feedback in one-on-one and small group conferences.
Planned, differentiated, and implemented authentic, performance-based writing and oral assessments aligned with
Virginia state standards.
Designed a four-week cultural study unit for ninth grade Advanced Academic students in which they collaborated to
understand human commonalities and explored multiple perspectives in literature and their own lives.
Co-designed and implemented units covering the genres of Creative Non-Fiction and fiction in a Creative Writing
class; in these units, students studied the stylistic and formal characteristics of Creative Non-Fiction and fiction, and
they created personal pieces that were critiqued by peers in writers workshop.
Co-planned and co-taught in Collaborative, Advanced Academic, and Advanced Placement classrooms. Participated
and co-planned in ninth and twelfth grade Professional Learning Communities.
