    Chart Styles

    The two main chart display styles are North Indian and South Indian shown here
    with North on the left. With Northern, the Houses are always in the same places as
    shown. With Southern, the Signs are always in the same places as shown. Note the
    Slash is the Sign of Cancer d. This is how the ascendent or rising sign is usually
    indicated on Southern Charts. That is then House 1, and you count from there
    Clockwise for the rest of the houses. On the Northern chart (left) you can see that
    you count the houses counter clockwise. On northern, the signs move. On
    Southern, the Houses move. Northern is preferrable overall because it emphasizes
    houses over signs.
