The MBA/MPA and MAED students of the University of the Assumption held Going Natural
Livelihood Program: How to Make Calamansi Concentrate at the University of the
Assumption, Grade School Department on March 3, 2017.

To provide income opportunities, to promote the use of natural ingredients and to apply the
learnings and principles of Human Resource Management course were the programs
objectives.

But before this

During the planning stage, tasking of responsibilities among the group members was done. It
was also during the stage when the group chose to extend service to the parents of Yakap
pupils parents as their beneficiary. Yakap is one of the programs of the University Assumption
for poor children aged 3-5 years old. These children are admitted to the school for free and are
being handled by teachers who volunteer their free time.

On this stage, the group also decided to make a Calamansi Concentrate as their product for it
fits the groups objective of promoting natural ingredients. The said product can be a substitute
to powdered juices which is cheaper and healthier. Moreover, its core ingredient, calamansi
can be easily found, quite affordable and offers a lot of health benefits.

After the planning stage, the group set a meeting for the first attempt in making the Calamansi
Concentrate. This was on the 26th day of February 2017 at Yalungs residence (San Juan, City
of San Fernando Pampanga.)

Before the training program itself, early in the morning the group set for another meeting for a
dry run of the presentation itself at De Guzmans residence (Unisite Subdivision, Del Pilar,
City of San Fernando, Pampanga.)

During the event proper, registration starts at around 1:40 in the afternoon. At exactly 2 in the
afternoon, the program started with a prayer led by Sarah Mae Lugtu, the programs host
followed by the opening remarks of Maam Djesinna Tupe, explaining the programs
objectives.

Ma. Loreta Patricio, an MBA student, led the demonstration and training with the assistance
from the other committee members. The demonstration was actively participated by the
parents by listening and posing questions regarding procedures and development of the
program. Aside from the Calamansi Concentrate, the group also showed how to make a by-
product of the same ingredient, calamansi candy made of calamansi peels. This is something
that showed how to maximize the use of calamansi as an ingredient.

While the demonstration was attended by the Yakap parents, their children were kept busy by
two of the committee members- Sarah Mae Lugtu, MPA student and Djesinna Tupe, MAED
student through a story telling session which was also a learning and development activity for
the children.

After the training, closing remarks were delivered by the groups professor, Arnel Usman. The
participants were also given Certificates of Participation and an ingredients pack which
includes calamansi, sugar, bottles and printed copy of the recipe as a tool for them to try,
practice and develop what they have learned.

Mr. Arnel Usman- Human Resource Management Professor, Mr. Charles Henry Espiritu-
Outreach Ministry Director, Ms. Darlyn Alonzo- Grade School teacher and Yakap coordinator,
Ms. Roselyn Cruz and Mr. Lauro Musni-Grade School Teachers were also present on the said
event.

There were positive feedbacks from the committee and the participants regarding the event.
One of the Yakap parents mentioned that the training held gave her an idea to add Calamansi
Concentrate to her small business for extra profit.

(TESTIMONIALS)

In the end, the event successfully met its objectives as the Graduate school students were able
to apply the concepts of Learning and Development. It benefited both the Yakap children and
their parents. In addition, it proved that UA students are Mayap- in aiming for the betterment
of many, Biasa- in having the knowledge required to be able to conduct a Training and
Development program and Maganaca in sharing their acquired learnings so others may also
benefit. Furthermore, the mission to train and to share was fulfilled.

This event would not be possible without the support and cooperation of University of the
Assumption Graduate School, University of the Assumption, Grade School Department, UA
Outreach Ministry, Sir Arnel Usman and the MBA/MPA/MaEd students.
