FOREWORD
These notes are supplied by Messier-Bugatti-Dowty for the limited purpose of familiarisation and general
information support specific training course only.
Information contained herein are intended only as a general description to perform a better maintenance and
systematic troubleshooting of subject systems described herein.
It is not the intent of Messier-Bugatti-Dowty that any training publication is used as a supplement to, or
instead of, any official technical publication.
Contents herein are subject to change without notice.
The reader of this manual is reminded that all values of pressure, temperature, speed, power etc., are chosen
for their illustrative meaning only and are not necessarily representative of true values.
For actual values, the applicable Aircraft Maintenance Manual must be consulted.

TRAINING COURSEBOOK A320 MAIN LANDING GEAR
SHOCK ABSORBER ON-WING PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT
1. Pressure Check
Overall pressure
Valve A
LP chamber
1.2. Measure Pressure P(A) at Pressure P(A)
Valve A (Low-Pressure chamber),
Dimension H
Valve B
HP chamber
Pressure P(B)
Valve A
LP chamber
Pressure P(A)
Measured
Pressure P(A)
1300 PSI
H
Ex : at 20oC
Pressure P(A) = 1300 PSI (89.6 Bar)
Dimension H = 6.0 Inches (152,5 mm)
Valve A
LP chamber
Pressure P(A) P(B) = P(A) : Piston in intermediate
position
High Pressure P(B) is greater than Low Pressure P(A)
depending on the aircraft mass distribution on the MLGs.
P(B) < P(A) : Problem.
Valve B
HP chamber
Pressure P(B)
2. Pressure Adjustment
LOW-PRESSURE
Chamber ONLY

TRAINING COURSEBOOK A320 MAIN LANDING GEAR
SHOCK ABSORBER ON-WING PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT
Weight-Off-Wheels / shock absorber extended [P(A) < P(B)]
Weight-on-Wheels / shock absorber being compressed
Weight-on-Wheels / stable static position P(A) = P(B)
2.1. Add Nitrogen in HP chamber until P(B) = P(A) + 200 PSI
This results in having the floating piston being maintained pushed in the top
abutment position, like having a single stage shock absorber.
P(A) = 1,300
1,200
110 PSIPSI
P(B) = 1,500
1,400
1,200 PSI
1,140
1,300
Diagram 2
The DIAGRAM #2 is used ONLY to check the pressure of the Low-Pressure chamber.
( considering fluid volume is correct)
20oC
Valve A :
Add (or remove) Nitrogen
Example :
- Temperature is : 20C
DIMENSION H = 6 in
- Current stroke is : 5.8 in
- Current pressure is : 1300 PSI
- Add Nitrogen at valve A up to 1400 PSI to match with a stroke H = 6 in
Now,
the Low-pressure chamber is
properly pressurized
3. Pressure Adjustment
HIGH-PRESSURE
Chamber ONLY

TRAINING COURSEBOOK A320 MAIN LANDING GEAR
SHOCK ABSORBER ON-WING PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT
This DIAGRAM #3 has to be used only when the piston
is at its top-abutment position [P(B) > P(A)]
900 PSI
(62 bar)
Valve A
LP chamber
Pressure P(A)
1140 PSI
Valve B (78.6 bar)
HP chamber
Pressure P(B)
Example :
Temp. = 8C
Pressure P(A) =
900 PSI (62 bar)
Pressure P(B) =
1,140 PSI (78.6 bar)
20oC
1400
1280 PSI
Then,
the Low-pressure and the
High-pressure chambers are
properly pressurized
SUMMARY
1. Check the LP
2. Check the HP
3. If discrepancy, overinflate the HP
4. Adjust the LP only
5. Adjust the HP (deflate)
6. If discrepancy remains, refill with oil
