BEFORE:Studentswillbeginworkingwithapartnertocomeupwithatopicthatthey
wanttouseforthegraph.Theywillthenworktogethertopick4subcategorystogowith
thetopic.Oncetheyhavebothofthosetheycanpickwhichgraphtheywouldliketo
represent. DuringStudentswillgointoothersecondgradeclassroomstotakea
pollforthegraphs.Theywillusetallymarksforthetallygraphs,colorinabargraphordraw
apictureforthepictograph.Thiswillbedoneonaroughdraftpaper.
After:Oncealloftheinformationiscalculatedtheywilltransferthe
informationontoafinalcopy.Alongwiththegraphtheywillcomeupwithtwoquestionsthat
theywanttoaskbasedontheinformationtheyreceivedExample:whichcategorygotthe
mostvotes?

Which students stood out today? Who captured my attention?
Why?
All of the students worked really hard with their partners they did a lot of
communicating and planning before beginning the graphs. Kingston really stood out to
me because he is normally one of the more quiet students but was egger to complete a
pictograph and showcase his amazing artistry. I thought the students were also very polite
when entering and exiting a different 2nd grade classroom.

What did not work or could have been more effective? What
was missing or needed?
It was difficult for me to be in every classroom when the students were
conducting the votes for their graphs. Thankfully the other classroom teachers helped to
make sure the students stayed on task. I did have to review the spelling for the graphs as
some of the students misspelled some of the words. The graphs were being displayed in
the hallway so I wanted to make sure everything was spelling correctly on their final
copy.

What worked really well today?


I think having the students work in partners worked really well. I only had one
partnership that became a little difficult when working together.

What is important for me to do tomorrow? This week?


This was an ending activity for a unit. This activity was student centered they enjoyed
being in control of their learning activity. I would like to plan other fun activities that
allow the students to really shine according to their own learning strengths.

If I had to pick a work or phrase for today what would it be?

Coming together is a beginning.
