Ray Bradbury
It is said that literature is reflected in the society or community of groups of individuals
within a specific time period. This spectacular author brought a new meaning to the world of
science fiction, fantasy, and horror. In reading the works of Ray Bradbury, an author whose work
was published during the Post Modern literary period. Bradburys works are still wildly popular
today, one can find relevant issues and themes. Additionally Bradburys legacy has had a lasting
impact on many readers, in particular Americans who enjoy science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
Ray Bradbury was an American fantasy and horror author. Ray Bradbury was born in
Waukegan, Illinois on August 22, 1920 (Manning). Waukegan, Illinois is on the shore of Lake
Michigan. Waukegan is close to Chicago and Wisconsin. As a young boy, Bradburys life
revolved around magic, magicians, circuses, and other such fantasies (Manning). As a young boy
Bradbury already had that passion for the world of fantasy. He was already living in that world.
All he needed to do was put it on paper. He married Marguerite Maggie McClure, whom he
met while she was working as a clerk at a bookstore (Biography). Ray Bradbury founded the
love of his life. Bradbury met her at a bookstore because he always used to go to them. Bradbury
used to call her Maggie. When I graduated from high school, it was during the Depression, and
we had no money. I couldnt go to college, said Ray Bradbury (Biography). Ray Bradburys life
was difficult. When he graduated from senior year it was the time of the Depression. Bradbury
wanted to go to college, but his family and he had no money so he couldnt go to college. He
died in Los Angeles on June 5, 2012, at the age of 91 (Biography). Ray Bradbury died after a
Fahrenheit 451, The Illustrated Man, and The Martians Chronicles (Biography). Fahrenheit 451,
Martinez 2
The Illustrated Man, and The Martian Chronicles made a really important impact on Ray
Bradburys carrier. These three novels have been read by thousands of persons. These novels
made an impact on people. In 1950, Bradbury published his first major work, The Martian
Chronicles (Biography). The Martian Chronicles was Ray Bradburys first major work. A lot of
people were interested in this novel. The Martian Chronicles lunched his carrier to the top. The
Martian Chronicles was a seminal event in the history of science fiction (Wolfe). These novel
cultivated the whole world of science fiction. It brought a new meaning to science fiction. By
1952, Bradburys name was so well known that he was elected president of the newly formed
Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, the next year he published the only book that
would rival the fame on The Martian Chronicles(55 Mass). In 1953 Bradbury published a new
book. That book was going to have more fame than The Martian Chronicles. That book was
going to bring a new meaning to the world of literature. His best known novel is Fahrenheit 451,
a dystopian study of future American society in which critical though is outlawed (Biography).
This is Ray Bradburys most popular novel of all times. Its a study of the future American
society. Fahrenheit 451, named after the temperature at which paper burns, was based on a short
novella called Fireman, which Bradbury published in Galaxy magazine in 1951 (55 Mass).
The most popular novel of Ray Bradbury was based on a novella. The novella Fireman was
what inspired Ray Bradbury and turned into Fahrenheit 451, Bradburys most fames novel of all
times. The Illustrated Man was published in 1951; this is a book of eighteen science fiction short
stories by Ray Bradbury that explores the nature of mankind (Weller). Ray Bradbury created The
Illustrated Man from eighteen different science fiction short stories. In The Illustrated Man, Ray
Bradbury explores the nature of mankind. It was nominated for the International Fantasy Award
in 1952 (International). The Illustrated Man was a grate book. The Illustrated Man was
Martinez 3
nominated for the annual literary award of the best science fiction or fantasy book. Many of
Bradbury's works were adapted for television and film (Rao). Bradburys work was so good that
Fahrenheit 451, but he also uses his short stories to address this theme (Lauer). One of Ray
Bradburys themes is censorship. Bradbury used the theme of censorship in his most fames
novel, Fahrenheit 451. Bradbury has used this theme in many of his short stories also.
Censorship applies to censorship of literary works, behavior, and technology (Lauer). Censorship
is when they are examining something. Its when you are officially examining. In "The
Murderer" and "The Pedestrian," the authorities have censored ways of thinking and being, like
the Murderer's dislike of technology gadgets and the Pedestrian's insistence on walking rather
than spending time in front of a television screen (Lauer). Like in both of these stories they are
using censorship so that the authorities can exam the way of thinking and being of the murderer
and the pedestrian. The authorities are trying to think like them. Space travel is the primary
theme of the short stories that were originally published in The Martian Chronicles, such as "The
Million Year Picnic," and "Dark They Were, and Golden Eyed" (Lauer). Bradbury used the
theme of space travel in many stories. The theme of space travel was a major part in The Martian
Chronicles. In the theme of space travel they go to different places. Bradbury has been accused
of being against technology, and he is certainly critical of the technology that features in his short
his popular novels and short stories. Ray Bradbury was a person that hated technology
innovations. In his stories from the Martian Chronicles in particular, humans have left Earth for
Mars in hope of a better and more promising future (Lauer). People are trying to escape
gadgets, and weapons have proliferated to a point where mutual destruction is nearly ensured on
Earth (Lauer). The theme of Technological Innovation has to do with the effect of technology on
earth. They want to go to a place where they dont have to rely on technology all the time.
Ray Bradbury left a great legacy behind. Bradbury had a great lasting impact on the
American society. Ray Bradbury was one of the most celebrated authors of the 21st century
(Biography). Ray Bradbury was one of the most celebrated authors of the 21st century because he
created wonderful stories. Barack Obama has paid tribute to the late science fiction author Ray
Bradbury, whom the US president said had "reshaped our culture and expanded our
world"(Flood). He had so much lasting impact on the American society that even president
Barack Obama did a tribute to him. Ray Bradbury brought a new meaning to this culture. One
Bradburys most lasting influences extended into the world of science (Saccone). Ray Bradbury
did influenced more the world of science. He influenced more in the world of science because
that what his carrier was more about. NASA brought him in to lecture astronauts, and Disney
used him as a consultant when designing the futuristic Epcot Center in Florida (Saccone). NASA
wanted their astronauts to get knowledge from Ray Bradbury. Disney brought Ray Bradbury so
that he use his creativity in the Epcot Center in Florida. His legacy lives on in his monumental
body of books, film, television and theater, but more importantly, in the minds and hearts of
anyone who read him, because to read him was to know him his grandson Danny Karapteian
(Saccone). His legacy remains in his works. Most importantly in the hearts and minds of the
groups of individuals within a specific time period. This spectacular author brought a new
meaning to the world of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Ray Bradbury conquered many
