I. INTRODUCTION

Dejguny lake islocated in the Mazurian Lake Region, which is in the estern
unit of northsern poland. The area of lake about 765.3 ha, and the volume is 92,671,4
x 10-3 m3, with maximum average depths of 45,0 and 12,0 m. According to the
fishing classification Lake dejguny is classified as a vendace-type with a population
a planctivorous species Coregonus albula L., and zooplankton Limnocalanus
matrurus G.O. Sars and fish C. albula, which very sensitive to unvorable change in
aquatic ecosystem, and phytoplankton in dejguny lake was investigated to the
environmetal cinditions that influencing to water quality. Degjuny lake indicators is
very low levels of environmental contamination.
Phytoplankton is good biological indicator of water quality, as important
element of the structure of various lake ecosystem, that very flexible in its ability to
adapt to different enviromental condition such as light, temperature, and
concentration of nutrients like nitrogenous and phosphorus. The total biomass and
composition of phytoplankton and chlorophyll a concentration in water are the basic
for ecological status assessment. The official assessment criteria in poland are
currently based only on concentration of chrolophyll a, as the measure of
phytoplankton biomass. Phytoplankton Metric for Polish Lakes (PMPL) has been
develop, which comparies both quantitative and qualitative features of algae. PMPL
is useful tool for lake ecological status assessment, the positive results of
intercalibrationconfirmed this method adaptable for assessing equivalent water
quality in many coutries in europe.
The purpose of this research focused on the phytoplankton based assessment of
ecologica status of the vendace type Lake Dejguny, include testing PMPL assessment
method wih regard to the requirements of Water Framework Directive.
II. METHOD

Quantitative and qualitative phytoplankton analyse were conducted in

the growth season from April until November in 2006, 2007, and
2008.integrated samples were collected at one-meter interval from the
eutophic zone during spring and autumn circulation
