The Philippines should stop their claim in Sabah.

There are various reasons as to

why they should stop the claim. First is the Philippine governments predecessors
renounced all claims over the state. This happened when the United States took
over the Philippines from the Spaniards; the American administrators in turn signed
documents defining the international boundary of the country. The Republic of the
Philippines then inherited the Philippines from its predecessor, the US, and they
renounced the claim over the Sabah. Another reason is that the Sulu court has
never administered the Sabah. Back in 1704, the Sabah was given as a gift to the
Sultan of Sulu by the Sultan of Brunei then years later it was leased to the North
Borneo British Company.

Probably the most important reason, the people of Sabah agreed to form with
Malaysia. When Sabah became independent on August 31, 1963 they agreed to
form Malaysia on its own accord. If we keep on insisting to claim Sabah there's a
possibility that the people in Sabah start a rebellion. It can also cause a war
between our country and the Malaysia. And as of February 2013, suspected Filipino
gunmen numbering between 80 to 100 were cornered in the Malaysian state of
Sabah on Borneo Island, triggering the start of the standoff. According to Sultan
Jamalul Kiram III, his followerssome 400 people with at least 20 of them armed
will not leave despite a demand from the Malaysian government that they go back
to the Philippines. This denotes that claiming the Sabah can lead to more blood
shedding tragedies.

This claim can also cause internal conflicts between countries that are part of the
United Nations (UN) and Association of South East Asians Nations (ASEAN) because
both Philippines and Malaysia are members of it.

There will also an effect in the Filipinos in the Sabah. The party-list group Migrante
International spokesperson said that because of the Aquino government's actions,
the Malaysian government will find more reasons to intensify its crackdown on
undocumented Filipino workers in Malaysia. The group believes overseas Filipino
workers in Sabah would be more vulnerable to crackdowns and abuses by Malaysian
authorities. Last March 2013, almost 300 deportees from Sabah arrived in
Zamboanga City, most of them undocumented workers.

As long as it is not settled, the issue will resurface because of the maneuverings of
the sultanate's many descendants still struggling to reclaim the land of their
ancestors. Instead of wasting time claiming a place where people living there dont
want to be a part of us, we should spend our time thinking how we can improve our
own country.
