A great mistake

A huge luxurious mansion was located deeply in the forest far away from the city. However,

it did not give a vibe of scary haunted house. The road that cut through the forest to the mansion

was surrounded with many shady and cool trees. Inside the mansion, the peaceful sound of the

Nightingales singing and the rabbits chasing around each others could be heard. The house was

filled with all the elegant, antique and rare furnitures. The magnificence chairs with golden craved

metal trimming around the edge from the Baroque period were placed in front of the medium size

hearth which provided the warmness for an entire house. The cabinet from the Reign of Louis XVI

was placed at the right corner of the hall. The mansion was divided into three floors with many

sections. A seventeen years old girl, Kate, was sitting in the biggest room at the third floor. She was

combing her blonde hair in front of enormous mirror. Her blue eyes were staring blankly into the

mirror. No one could imagine what she was thinking. She stared at her small rounded face with big

blue eyes, straight and pointed nose and glow peach lip. Then stood up, turned around and saw all

the furnitures and extravagant stuffs which were placed nicely and orderly in her room. The large

curtains were opened scantly to let a tiny ray of sun get through the room. Over six thousands day

that she woke up alone in the morning even with fresh sunlight, breezy wind, bizarre storm or

beautiful autumn had never made her day. It was lifeless as always. While her mind was blowing

away from the reality, a huge wooden door in front of her room was knocked.

Lady, its time for breakfast. Everything was really for you, said her nanny, Charlotte.

She has been here taking care of Kate since she could remember it.

Okay, whispered Kate.

She walked down the golden marble spiral stair cases. Then, she walked straight to a

enormous dining hall that a convention could be held in it. Three chefs and 5 mates were waiting

for her there. She sat at the head of a large long table, sweeping her eyes through all the food that

could feed twenty people. Suddenly, she rolled her eyes and started to talk in a louder voice.

What is all of this trash? Dont you guys know how to cook? Seriously? Everyone was in silence

like they knew their jobs. A few minutes passed and two mates walked to the table, then started to

put all the dished out. A cup of tea, a glass of Fiji apple juice, a dish of American breakfast, a dish of

pancake, a bowl of cinnamon raisin oatmeal, a basket of croissant and bread were thrown into a bin

in front of her. Suddenly, her nanny came into the hall, staring at all food in the bin. She acted like

nothing happen and turned to a lady.

Lady, What would you like to eat? We could find whatever you want for you, said

Charlotte. She talked to Kate like she has not done anything rude. It had been like that since Kate

knew how to put food on spoon and take it into her choosy mouth. Some mates closed their eyes

and shook their heads slowly like they were so fed up with both of them behaviours but no one

literally could say anything.

Huh! Okay! Today I wanna eat before she could say anything, the bell was rang.

I will go and see, lady. Please just wait here, said Charlotte.

Charlotte walked straight to the door. She grabbed a door knob and pull it out. She looked

through a small gab of an ajar door to find out who was coming. Suddenly, her eyes bulged out like

she saw a monster. He was not a monster but he was a true monster for Charlotte. She had no

choice but to go out and talk to him because everyone was waiting for her at the dining hall.

Why are you come back? Charlotte gritted her teeth and whispered. She glared at middle-

aged man who was wearing a creamy suit and pants with a nice polished brown leather shoes. She

tried her best to control her facial expression. But she did not do it really well. It was obviously

look like she was really shock and angry. A guy had a blonde hair with big blue eyes, just liked

Kate. He did not said anything but just looked at Charlotte calmly. Before anymore words would

come out from her mouth, he raised his right wrist up a little bit and looked at his golden Rolex

watch and said I need to see Kate. Please do not waste my time anymore. I guess she is having

breakfast right now. He did not wait for Charlotte to invite him into a mansion. He got into the

house and walked straight to the dining hall like he knew every sections in this house really well.

When he reached a hall, he stood still in front of the door. It was like his legs were freeze. He

looked through a big glass door and saw Kate sitting on a chair with only a glass of water on a table.

He stared at her and move his eyes around through her body and gestures. She did not smile, her

eyebrows were frowned like they might make a straight line, her arms were crossed together at her

chest and her legs were crossed inside that pleat long pink skirt. He took a deep breath and decide

to knock the door. One of the maids immediately opened it for him. He took a first step into a hall

while his heart was beating like a drum. He grasped his hands really hard. They were sweating so

bad. He walked and stopped in front of Kate. She glanced at him for several seconds. Then, it

looked like she got a question in her mind on who is this stranger. It was a bit weird because his

face and hers were a bit similar. Not so long after that, Charlotte walked in and stopped behind him.

Kate stopped looking at a guy and turn to Charlotte. She looked at Charlotte and raised her

eyebrows up to ask her to answer a question in her mind.

Good morning! Kate said a guy. His voice sounded a bit nervous. Kate was a bit shock

that this stranger know her name. However, she did not really pay attention to him. She looked

into the other ways and asked him arrogantly Who are you? How did you know my name? He

was suddenly shocked by her rude reaction. She turned back to him and wait for his answer for a

second. A guy still stay in silence. Kate ignored him and turned to Charlotte. She asked her again

Who is him? Why did you let the stranger into my house? Before Charlotte would say anything,

a guy broke into a conversation and said Kate, Would you mind if I would like to talk to you

personally? I need to tell something, an really important thing, whispered him in the last part of

the sentence. She looked into his eyes. She never knew him, never before in her entire life. She

could count the people who she knew and had ever met in her life and tell you all their names. She

did not have any family. All the people she knew were Charlotte, mate and chef who worked in her

mansion and a few of her friends. She did not even know whatever inspired her to say yes.

Sure, answered Kate. She looked through everyone in the room and said Everyone!

Leave the room! I want to talk to him personally.

No! no! you cant! screamed Charlotte. She immediately shouted out. Her face turned

red and her hands were grasped together. Everyone was shocked by her action.

What? Why? What is the problem? Why are you getting mad? Charlotte! frustratedly

asked Kate. A minute passed and Charlotte seemed to realise that she just made a big mistake. She

calmed herself and tried to explained it to Kate.

No, lady, I apologise for my inappropriate manner. I just did not trust his guy to stay with

you alone. I mean he is a stranger and we do not really know who he is.

Dont worry, III be fine, answered Kate. Then, she turned her face to another way like to

tell Charlotte to leave the room. Charlottes face showed how unsatisfied she was to Kates answer.

She looked at a guy and he stare at her back blankly.

But Charlotte tried to say something.

Leave the room, Kate did not give a chance for Charlotte to say anything.

Please sit down first Mr? Kate turned to a guy.

Martin, my name is Martin, replied a guy.

Oh! Charlotte! Wait! Bring two cups of tea for me and Mr. Martin. I guess we both have

not have breakfast yet.

Sure, lady, please wait for a minute.

Then, Charlotte left the room. Kate began a conversation.

So, Mr. Martin, how do you know me? Who are you? What do you wanna talk to me?

she threw many questions at a guy at once.

Oh! Wait Kate, let me explain you everything step by step, said Martin. He closed his

eyes and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes again, he stares at Kate. He got tears well

up in his eyes. Kate was shock by that.

I am your ddaI am your dad! I am so ashamed to say this. I left you alone for

seventeen years. I am sorryI am so sorryI was trying my best to end up every problems and

come back to you. I was just a coward man. I was so scare that I wont be able to handle it if I will

loose you again like I lost your mom.

What do you mean? What are you talking about? I amI am so confuse, whispered

Kate. Her face got pale. She was looking blankly at Martin.

I knowI know its hard to believebutKatepleaseplease believe me.

Whatwhat is going onCharlotte told me my parents were dead since I was born by a

car accident, said Kate. Her eyes were filled with tears.

Give me a chance to be a part of your life. Give me a chance to fulfill a word family for

us.

Kate did not answer anything. She was sitting silently. Tears started to fall down and

touched that gentle hands. She was out of her mind. It was quite ridiculous that there was a

stranger in front of her house in the morning. He came in and told her that he was her dad. She did

not even know whether to feel sad or to be happy. It was a good news that she found her true

family. But her entire life was changing with half an hour. It was already bad, her life, she did not

want anyone to ruin it anymore.

HowHow can I know that you did not lie to me?pleaseplease dont, cried Kate.

Martin cant do nothing but looked up to stop tears falling down from his eyes. It must be

really hard for her to live this trashy life, a life without anyone sincere and love her from the bottom

of their heart. How can this little girl handle this thing alone? It was even more hurt because he was

actually her dad and he was a part of her sad life. He did not surprised that she has those rude

behaviour and bad manner because no one would really told whether what she had done was right

or wrong. It was all his fault. Whatever she was, he still loved her. He grabbed a mini photo album

out from the pocket of his suit. He gave it to Kate. She received it and opened it. An album was

contained with five pictures. One of them was a picture of a man, a woman and a baby. In a picture,

a baby was sleeping in a womans arms. She was such a pretty woman who has a long blonde hair

and light brown eyes. A man in a picture looked really like Martin but he looked much more

younger. He got the blue eyes and blonde hair. She stared at the picture once, then looked up and

started at Martins face again.

Yes, the man in a picture was me. That beautiful woman, Katherine, she was your mom.

And a baby in the picture is you. Kate did not wait for Martin to finish the sentence. She turned to

another page of an album. The rest of them were the pictures of her, a baby, in different actions.

She turned to each pages slowly, gently touch them and stare as them like she could turn time back.

She started to cry. There were the tears of happiness. She stood up and darted herself to him. She

threw her arms around his body, snuggled and cried in his chest. Same as Martin, he hugged Kate

hardly like he would never leave her again. He was sobbing and crying. The sound of happiness

get through every sections of house. It was that loud that animals in the other side of a forest could

hear that. It was so loud that they couldnt even here that the door was open and someone was

walking toward them.

Bangggggg!! A ceramic tea pot was shattered on someone head with a loud clash. Martin

opened his eyes and he saw blood slowly oozed out from his beloved daughters head. The blood

fell down to his hand. He put his arms away from her body and gently removed her face from his

shoulder. He placed her back on the back of a chair. He opened his eyes widely and started to

realise what had just happened.

No! Martin screamed out loudly. Both his hands pressured his temple forcefully. His face

and body turned red. He cried and sobbed like crazy. Until he heard someone giggled in front of

him, he started to look up. Even though, there were tons of tears covered an entire of his eyes, he

still could see her, the devil that had parted him away from only his beloved one. It was her,

Charlotte. She was standing in front of him, giggling with an evil smile. He stared at her, he could

see the satisfied in her eyes. He had never seen her be this happy before. He immediately screamed

at her.

Why? Why would you do this? She is an innocent. She did not know anything. How can

you do this? I lost Katherine. And now you did it to her. You are so cruel. You are not a

human he started to cry again and could not continue talk anymore.

No, Martin, no, its never enough. Even I could take all your breathe away, its never

enough. All the things you have done to me, you need to face it yourself. I told you not to

comeback. She stopped talking for a second, swallowed down thickly. You did not listen to me,

smiley said Charlotte. But you dont need to worry. I wont kill you. I will let you live with his

sadness for all your life. Good luck. She smiled to him wickedly and walked away.
