As per the requirements of Section 1.4.1.2.3 of CMAA #74, vertical deflection of any runway girder span under
consideration should not exceed Lr /450 based on the maximum wheel loads without VIF (Dead Load Factor, Hoist Load
Factor). CMAA #74 does not specify if this is for cantilever or members supported at both ends so it would be considered
for both types. No specific criteria for lateral deflection is given other than it should not be detrimental.
Deflection is considered at the centre of the longest span and at the tip of the cantilever section.
VIF is applied for these loads. Hence, the deflections are conservative.
Vertical deflections
Deflection, section supported at both ends (span between joints MR01, MR03, defl'n at MR02) 0.200 in
Deflection, section supported at both ends (span between joints MR01, MR03, defl'n at MR02) 0.055 in
Horizontal deflections are minor and considered to meet CMAA recommendation that they not be detrimental.
