This guide is for faculty members and key positions in the universities. Students can try to read it and
forward this short guide to their faculty members who can then try for these programs. Therefore,
students in Pakistani universities if you want these opportunities, then request your faculty members to
apply for these programs
4) Jean Monnet
Funding for exchange, research projects which address European Union studies, issues, integration. This
does not include language studies
This is the most important and useful and easy part of the funding. You can develop a relationship with
European university for sending students and staff from your university to their university on exchange and
in turn, they will send their students and staff to your university. This exchange is for all levels BS, MS, PhD
and staff. The application for international credit mobility funding is submitted by the European university
whom you plan to do international credit mobility. There are 33 program countries with which you can do
International Credit Mobility. It includes 28 EU states and also Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the Former
Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey. So 33 states including EU states. Pakistan is the partner country
You can submit application for International mobility yearly. The credit mobility project plan can be of one
year or two years.
The application deadline to apply for it to get into credit mobility: 02 February, 2017.
European, Turkish Institutions can apply including you as partner in international credit mobility.
** Only Program country (European/Turkish) will fill the international credit mobility form.
EU has developed some very detailed FAQs files for it, go through it

will contact; ask them to visit this website as well. These are the national contact points in those universities,
which can guide them better

Some comments:
These comments are very important. I include these comments, according to my experience, which you can
also acknowledge and follow to understand more
1) International Credit mobility is quite easy to do. Young PhDs who are returning from their home
institutions in Europe, Turkey can try to establish to contact their European professors. European,
Turkish Professors will then ask their universities. Then rest of the work will be done by European/
Turkish University who is taking you as part of International Credit Mobility. Also people in faculty who
already have contacts with European universities can start discussion with European universities.
2) The students who are studying abroad can talk to their labs/ universities and can connect them with their
universities in Pakistan. Students whom friends/elder siblings studying abroad can help in it.
3) You can start this thing yourself by contacting some relevant research lab professors in European, Turkish
universities and then they will get the information to establish international credit mobility through their
universities administration. Contact small universities in small European countries, they will respond
early
4) It is very easy and has not so many administrative procedures. You just need to contact the persons in
EU/ Turkish Universities and later on if project is approved, you can work on detailed MoU
5) Some universities especially in Turkey have already made separate portals to contact them regarding
International Credit Mobility Project. Find such universities
6) Some Pakistani Universities departments are already in International Credit Mobility. But if you belong to
different departments of these universities, you can try for more international credit mobility projects
7) You have enough time to do it.
8) I share the list of few universities whom only one department is under credit mobility. You can find the
persons in those universities in Pakistan or Europe/ Turkey to get more information.
You can contact these people, in case you need help, as these people are already involved in Credit mobility
from Pakistan side in their universities.
Forman Christian College University, who is in International credit mobility 2016 with Middlesex university,
UK: Kiran Salamt ( kiransalamt@fccollege.edu.pk )
Comsats Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad with Middle east Technical University, Turkey: Arif
Awan ( arif_awan@comsats.edu.pk )
*** I again say that only one or two departments of these universities are under Erasmus+ credit mobility,
rest of the departments yet to have to do credit mobility for their students.
Therefore, I must say, start with credit mobility now, contact universities in Europe, Turkey, and Iceland
and see if you can have a friendship with them to start credit mobility as deadlines are nearby.
Finding partners is difficult; do see the advices by European Union delegation of finding European partners at
the end of document.
2) Capacity Building
Financing for the projects in higher education institutions addressing challenges such as quality
enhancement, management, governance, equipment, teaching capacity. See this presentation first

** Two Pakistani Universities have won one project in capacity building, you can contact them

From International Islamic University: Dr. N.B. Jumani: deanfss@iiu.edu.pk . Dean of dept. of social
sciences at IIUI.

2) Finding partners is difficult, do see the advices by European Union delegation of finding European
partners at the end of the document
As you know about Erasmus Mundus Joint master programs which let you study in two or three universities
in Europe. There ae currently more than 101 programs of Masters are open. You can include your Pakistani
university as associate partner in these programs. This is really a good opportunity to do it. Then students
from EMJMD program can come to Pakistani universities. It will really put a big impact on value of Pakistani
degrees because becoming a partner in such competitive programs is really worthy for increasing
international value of your Pakistani university.
Deadline to apply: 16 February, 2017

1) As I said above, if any Pakistani university becomes an associate member in it. Believe me, it will be
big impact in regarding value, ranking of Pakistani university. Because the European universities
already in EMJMD programs are already very competitive selected through competitive process. If
they are ready to include you as associate partner. It will be best thing.
2) Associate partners can conduct internships, trainings summer schools etc. Read about already
associate partners in given presentation link above
Pakistani universities working in areas relevant to European areas such as European policies, economy,
governance, integration etc. This does not include languages
Again you have to find the partner or friend in European, Turkey, 33 countries, who can apply including you
as partner.

This is informal advice based on the questions the EUD colleagues have been receiving while promoting
ERASMUS+ this autumn and winter. These suggestions are meant for faculty members who are interested in
applying and implementing mobility and cooperation projects under ERASMUS+.
Build on existing links. Considering the limited time left, it would be best to build on already existing
partnerships and relations. If your university already has had experiences on Erasmus Mundus or
Horizon2020, contact the same universities again (even if your proposed cooperation would be with
another department). However, the main idea here is to have a broader focus and look into any
contacts you or your colleagues have made at international conferences, through academic networks
etc. Faculty members and students who have already studied or worked in Europe could make a very
important contribution here by contacting their former professors, colleagues and fellow students.
The relevant information about European universities is in nearly all cases available online. Search
for institutions through key words/areas your institute/department is focusing on or is interested to
develop. Think through what is your main interest in applying, how this particular university
corresponds to it, what your institution could offer in terms of added value and what you actually
propose to do.
Go beyond EU Member States that you already know well, such as the UK, and consider approaching
universities in smaller member states and other programme countries, which have many dynamic
institutions that might be open for new partnerships and cooperation.
Identify and approach several universities as many of them may already have planned their
cooperation for this call. If this is the case, you may still suggest to apply jointly for next years call.
Send your letter by e-mail to the heads of departments; you may want to copy the international
relations department. There is no need in most cases to write a formal Vice Chancellor level letter. If
there is a need for this (this may vary a lot between different EU countries), they will inform you
about this later if they are interested in cooperation.
To complement your efforts, you may also want to contact the higher education agency of a
particular EU country to ask them to send your general expression of interest to their contact lists. If
you do that, it would be helpful to identify your focus and proposed area of cooperation. The list of
contact points in the programme countries can be found
here: http://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/tools/national-agencies/index_en.htm
