Basic possibilities of landscaping

What does landscaping planning consist of? What to start

with? Is it better to hire professionals or do it by yourself?
Zoning
Zoning regulates development through land use classifications and
dimensional standards. Typical land use classifications included single-
family residential, multi-family residential, commercial, institutional,
industrial and recreational. Each land use must comply with dimensional
standards that regulate the height, bulk and area of structures. These
dimensional standards typically take the form of setbacks, side yards, 1
height limits, minimum lot sizes, and lot coverage limits.

Nr.3 Farm area, barn, stable, domestic animals, water storage,
fertilizer, plants for sale etc.
Nr.4 Pasture, meadows, forest
Nr. 5 Natural environment for recreation, mushroom, berry picking &
other activities

If we use professional landscaping services we have a

guarantee of quality result, on the other hand, if we use DIY method,
we can practice our skills and create original design.

The garden project consists from 2 variants of landscaping
planning, analysis of the current situation and description of the
project.
The classical project usually has 2 planning variants and
inspection on site. The technical project of the garden is more
detailed with lists of plant, material and lighting specifications!
In each garden project is included:
Nr. Planning stages - sections Examples
1. Analysis of garden functional zones and
view lines 1
Separate functional zones are distinguished in
garden plan, which combine activities of
particular type and certain design principles in
the garden.

Usually the following functional zones are in

the area:

-representative zone,
- recreation zone, which consists of:
-active recreation zone
-passive recreation zone
- children play zone,
-service zone

On the basis of functional zoning, the final

planning solution is developed. Plan also
incorporates analysis of positive and negative
view lines in the garden and view analysis of
the landscaping objects outside the garden
territory. Separate points in the garden are
chosen, which will form the most important
view lines in the chosen garden arrangement
and the views from these viewpoints are
analyzed.

2. Two or more planning variants

Two different garden plans are developed with
different arrangement of garden elements and
dissimilar planning lines. Notes on each plan
explain the planned garden elements.

3. Plan of design dimensions

Dimension plan is designed to ease the

marking of chosen arrangement on site.
Position of planned garden elements is
measured from such monumental objects as
buildings, fences, support walls etc. If the
planned line is parallel to garden object, then
the distance from the existing object is given.
For other newly planned lines the location of
endpoints is given. For round forms and
1
arches, the centre is fixed to existing
elements of garden. Lines which are bent in
free form are split into segments, where the
centre of each segment is given, or an
auxiliary line is placed next to wave form
object, from which all the measurements are
made. If there are no monumental objects in
the garden, which could be used as
benchmark points for measurements, then
gridline network with coordinates is placed on
garden plan and all measurements are made
in relation to gridlines. In such case the
gridline network is fixed to the borders of
garden.

4. Sketches of garden

Sketches are made for such individually

designed garden elements as children
playground equipment, garden fountains, art
installations, individual structures for hedges
etc, if it is necessary.

5. Diagrams

Graphic diagrams are developed for planting,

hedge trimming, garden constructions,
individually designed children playground
equipment etc., if it is necessary.

6. Drawings of children playground
equipment

If children playground is planned in the

project, then certified drawings of
manufacturers are included for the planned
children playground equipment.

7. Specifications of garden pavements

In pavement specification are listed all the
pavements, which are planned in the garden
project. Photo and description is added to
each pavement(including installation and
maintenance instructions).

8. Garden lighting specification

All luminaries that are planned in garden

project are listed in lighting specification,
Lamp designation from garden plan, photo,
manufacturer, name and code of lamp, colour
of the body, bulb parameters and description
are listed in the specification.
9. Description article

Concept of garden planning and details of

both planning variants are given in
description article.
10. Notes for establishment and
maintenance

Instructions and technical specification of

materials for establishing and maintaining the
garden are given in the notes.

It is possible to additionally develop greenery plant specification
lists:

1 Greenery plan with detailed plant specification

.

Greenery plan is drawn in two scales:

scale 1 : 100 (1 cm in drawing equals 1 m on

1
ground)
or 1 : 200 (1 cm in drawing equals 2 m on
ground). All plants that are planned in the
garden and the number of plants in each group
is listed. Table with plant list for all the garden is
attached to the plan. It contains all the
information needed to order plants from the
nursery or to receive price calculations from the
nursery. Plant names in Latin and Latvian,
number of plants from each type in the garden,
planting distances and notes for trimming or
special features of plants are given in the list.
Photos of planned plants are attached to the
greenery plan.

2 3D visualizations for planning are optional

.
Realistic 3D visualizations of the garden
Garden visualizations consist from 10 realistic
computer graphics pictures with particular plants and
materials, that are planned in the garden. In addition
to computer visualizations, virtual 3D video
walkthrough of the garden is developed.
