July and 5:8 °C (42.5F) in August, with sudden snowfall in sum
mer. Itis officially open to climbers in July and August. The most
popular way is to start climbing in the afternoon, spend the night
rear the summit and start climbing again early morning to watch
the sunrise on the summit. It takes about 6 hrs. from the Sth
Station to the summit, 3-4 hrs. from the summit to the Sth
Station. Considered a sacred mountain in the Edo Period, Mt
Fuj is still climbed by groups of worshippers. Being a relatively
easy climb, young children as well as elder citizens can enjoy the
experience, but a minimum amount of effore should be made,
such as the preparation of clothes for cold weather, suitable
footwear, enough drinking water and rainwear. Mountain huts
(open Jul-Aug) are so crowded that guests are required to
share a room. If you plan to lodge in a hut, reservation is recom
mended.
