Lesson planning is an area of strength for Sonya. Sonya provided excellent plans. Plans are detailed and aligned with
school division objectives and Virginia Standards of Learning on a consistent basis. Sonya utilized a variety of
instructional strategies,assessment techniques (both formative & summative), as well as consideration for differentiation
of instruction for each lesson. Sonya's plans are well-developed.

Sonya provided effective instruction during my observations. She implemented student-centered activities to engage
students in learning. Sonya should vary her tone of voice, volume, and inflection to deliver a more expressive whole-
group lesson. This will better convey her passion for teaching. She appropriately adjusted her instructional volume for
small-group vs. whole group. All activities aligned with the learning objectives. She understands the components of a
high-quality lesson. She developed several assessment and learning activities using the IPad and programs such as
NearPod.

Sonya has shown professional growth in the area of assessment. She has expanded her assessment tools and types
of assessments used. She used student learning data to guide her instructional decision-making. I would like to see
Sonya have more instructional conversation with more teacher-to-student feedback as well as student-to-teacher
feedback.

This was such a lovely group of 3rd-grade students. They were ready to learn and were eager to participate and please
the teacher. During each visit, the students were engaged in, and excited about, learning. Sonya worked well with her
cooperating teacher to maintain a positive learning culture that was established prior to her arrival. During one
observation, she maintained a perfectly quiet reading environment by keeping her voice soft and low during small-group
reading instruction. She modeled the appropriate expectation.

Sonya is a top-notched pre-service professional. She is highly reliable and is a team-player. She steps in where needed
and has created materials/resources for the benefit of the classroom and grade-level. She listens to constructive
feedback with open ears and makes every effort to adjust her instruction based on that feedback.
