Participation and effort 5 points (each class) possible:

Arrive promptly and prepared

sequences with a partner

Unexcused absences subtract 5 points


ALU (absent late unexcused) occurs after 5 minutes late
with no blue slip subtract 1 point

In case of 2 or more excused absences, the student may


be asked to take practical skills test to show the
knowledge of dance steps learned in his (her) absence
(otherwise he/she might lose points for each absence).

Practical Test or Performance 30 points possible:

Subject: BALLROOM DANCE in PE

The program provides opportunities for mastery and refinement of skills in physical
activities. There is also provision for a holistic perspective on health and fitness as well as
expressiveness, developing a competitive spirit and opportunities for leadership training.
The content comprises four dances in two different dance styles Smooth and Rhythm.
These dances help to develop coordination, grace and rhythmic sense through the use of
movement, music and other stimuli. They also cultivate an appreciation for the heritage
of other countries.

Grade: 9

Aim:

To achieve the vision of a physically educated student, the Dance syllabus aims to
develop students motor skills and equip them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to
pursue and enjoy a physically active and healthy lifestyle.

Objectives:
1. To develop and maintain physical health and fitness through regular participation
in dance activities.
2. To understand importance of sportsmanship, teamwork and individual effort for
the success of a group performance.
3. To perform and enjoy Ballroom Dance while applying broad range of movement
skills and concepts from which to derive greater satisfaction.
4. To cover dance vocabulary to introduce the principles, concepts, skills and
techniques of dance.
5. To introduce and apply knowledge of dance etiquette.
6. To explore the elements of choreography and composition as a process of creative
dance.
7. To introduce the cultural and historical dimension of dance.
8. To introduce the exploration of artistic judgment.
