NetApp Chief Information Security Officer 3/2016 - Current


Executive responsible for all information security policy, planning, and technology design and operations for NetApp
critical digital assets, employees, and stakeholders. Leader of a 61-person staff with an ~$11M annual budget. Directly
responsible for executive stakeholder communications including regular board of directors presentations.
Reorganized Information Security team around core functions including Incident Response, Vulnerability
Management, Risk & Compliance, Network Security, Systems and Tools, and Identity Management. Assigned clear
service leaders for each function and repurposed Security Architects to focus on strategy and road maps.
Rapidly grew the InfoSec global team, hiring 16 new employees in under 90 days as part of team maturity program.
Developed a Security project and task delivery function to handle the high demand from internal customers for
security services. Over 250 projects and tasks are loaded in ServiceNow IT management platform for tracking and
forecasting. Weekly meeting cadence created to review critical projects, set priorities, and deal with risk.
Launched 24/7 Incident Response managed service provider to ensure constant monitoring of corporate IT
environment for malicious actors or internal threats. Added full-time resources for escalated response and overhauled

NetApp Director IT Infrastructure and Operations 10/2015 2/2016


Leader of Infrastructure and Operations for NetApp IT ranging from 4-year strategy, to technology architecture &
engineering, and to L1-L3 24/7 operations. Team is composed of 200+ people including 150+ employees. Responsible
for managing ~$75M annual budget. Responsible for all data center services and IT infrastructure inside data centers
along with IT hybrid cloud services and IT service management.
NetApp Director IT Infrastructure Services (Customer-1) 10/2013 9/2015
Manager of a 98-person global IT team responsible for all data storage, hosting, virtualization, data center networking,
and physical data center services which ranges from technology architecture to daily incident operations. Also
responsible for strategy and implementation of NetApp IT hybrid cloud using cloud service providers, Amazon Web
Services, and Microsoft Azure orchestrated by a cloud software management platform. Assets included over 270 storage
controllers with 60+ PBs of disk space, 5000+ virtual machines running on 1400+ physical servers in 3 primary corporate
data centers using 4000+ KW power. Manage a ~$24M annual budget.

Led the IT hybrid cloud team transformation from an incubation project to a regular IT service offering with service
design blueprints, service catalog, self service automation, support SLAs, and 24/7 operational support. Assumed
responsibility for 16 people, $3M budget, and vendor relationships with public cloud partners.
Created the Customer-1 internal marketing program building deeper relationships with NetApp product development
and customer support sharing service, product, and future strategy feedback across NetApps portfolio. Reinforced
the marketing with a monthly Customer-1 newsletter and weekly metrics dashboard sent to key leaders inside and
outside IT. Presented to numerous customers at EBCs including 20 customers in one week during an EBC roadshow.
Primary business planner for insourcing IT infrastructure and core services operations staff from a MSP. Built
financial business model with 3-year NPV ROI, staffing plan, conversion schedule, stakeholder analysis, and monthly
budgets. Led the implementation over 9 months, hiring 89 new employees, culminating in a successful conversion to
the new 24/7 IT Operations staff located in the US and India.
In first 6 months in position, reduced P1 outages from ~10 per month to 1 per month, including 10 straight weeks of
100% availability between May and August 2014. Achieved 11+ months of no storage technology outages.
Primarily responsible for rapid NetApp product adoption in the NetApp IT department. Made significant
improvements in the first two years of this program leading to a pivotal expansion of the program to pre-release
products. New environment invested over $2.4M per year including 6 new employees. This new environment
provided a platform for early NetApp product adoption, new technology evaluation, and the private cloud portion of
the hybrid cloud platform.

NetApp Senior Manager IT Data Storage and NetApp Product Services 6/2012 9/2013
Manager of a 23-person global IT team responsible for all data storage services from long-term planning and architecture
to daily incident operations. Responsible for several data storage projects, new deployments, and lifecycle activities.
Direct the weekly activities of 10 engineers and a 12-person 24/7 incident and problem operations team. Manage an
average $3.2M annual budget. Responsible for over 320 storage controllers, 40PBs of storage, and all services needed to
provide optimal data storage. Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships, set vision and goals, communicate
with management, handle escalations, and build new NetApp product relationships with groups outside of IT.
Led the first design, installation, and data migrations to NetApps new Clustered Data ONTAP storage technology for
NetApp IT. This new technology was a major overhaul of NetApps primary storage product requiring detailed
planning, engineering, testing, and implementation. The installation included 22 nodes with 3.6 PBs of data storage.
Led a cross functional team of 8 people completing the first installations of NetApps FlexPod architecture into IT
data centers. Worked with NetApp Product Solutions team to ensure adherence to FlexPod specific designs. The new
FlexPods with Clustered Data ONTAP storage are now the standard infrastructure footprint in IT data centers.
Setup team organization focused on ITSM service lines. Created eight storage service lines which cover all aspects of
data storage requirements such as Data Protection Services and Software Services. Service owners have overall
responsibility for proper goal setting, documentation, processes, stakeholder analysis, metrics, and technical designs
for the specific service. This model aligns to ITSM best practices and provided a model for other IT teams to follow.
Built a completely new Storage Operations Team in India to replace the existing 24/7 incident and problem operations
team. Created the initial business case with financial modeling showing a positive ROI. Set the team organization,
skill levels, proposed shift plan, interviewing model, and conversion timeline. Made two trips to India to ensure
successful go-live in May 2013.
NetApp Senior Manager & Principle Architect, IT Communications Engineering 9/2008 5/2012
Manager of a 17-person global IT Communications team responsible for engineering large-scale IT communications
projects and architectural standards for global networks, data center networks, storage area networks (SAN), IP telephony,
contact center telephony, network security, and quality of service. Direct the weekly activities of 16 engineers including
project scheduling, labor resource allocations, escalations, and personnel issues. Develop business case proposals,
technology roadmaps, responsibility matrixes, cross-functional technology integration and management reports. Manage
an average $15 million annual project budget. Maintain relationships with key vendors and investigate and form new
partnerships.
Used a detailed and intricate financial business case analysis learned in MBA classes to demonstrate the 3-year
positive net present value (NPV) and 39% internal rate of return (IRR) of a $32.3 million global WAN project. This
financial analysis and the productivity benefits of the new solution led to final approval of the project
Overall business owner of the global WAN project which quintupled WAN bandwidth at 65 sites, installed 10 new
Internet circuits, 126 new routers, 69 WAN Accelerators, SIP Trunking in the US, and global IP Conference Calling
for all NetApp employees. Project took over 12 months and involved more than 70 people worldwide.
Led a cross-functional team to design, order, deliver, and implement a new 5-megawatt, 300-rack IT data center. This
new data center, with a $4.7 million communications budget, included a cutting-edge network, virtualized hosting,
and security design. Data center was delivered 15% under budget, saving over $710,000, and has become a showcase
for NetApp IT.
Received five consecutive top ratings (1 out of 4) on annual performance reviews which are given to only 3% of
employees.
